Niantic unveiled further details for the upcoming Mother's Day 2026 Event!

This event will be active from May 8th @ 18:00 UTC to May 18th @ 18:00 UTC.

During the event's timeframe, Agents will be able to activate 13 Kinetic Capsules in parallel instead of 7.

Additionally, a premium Campaign will be available in the in-game store for 15.000 CMU: completing its bounties will award the “The Acolyte - Mother’s Day 2026” Badge.

Finally, to celebrate this event, some exclusive merch themed after The Acolyte is available at the Ingress Store.

🇪🇺 Niantic Spatial published its DSA Transparency Report for Ingress covering year 2025.

The Digital Services Act (DSA) is an EU regulation that requires online platforms operating in the European Union to publicly report on their content moderation activity. Niantic Spatial, as an operator of services available in the EU, is obligated to publish this data annually. The figures below cover EU-based accounts only.

👥 According to the report, in the EU there are 58.600 active monthly users.

Account actions
A total of 5,720 accounts were actioned during 2025:
🚫 4,780 permanent bans
⌛️ 622 temporary suspensions
❔ 318 actions in other categories

Appeals
⚖️ 312 ban appeals were submitted over the year
✅ All 312 were upheld by Niantic
🕔 Average response time: 1 day and 18 hours

To reiterate: this data covers EU-based accounts only.

Spatial received 62 DSA notices falling under the Cyber Bullying and Intimidation category. Of those, action was taken on 5 notices, on the basis of legal requirements and Terms of Service violations.

The report confirms that Ingress uses no automated moderation systems. All content moderation is carried out exclusively by trained human moderators.

Niantic announced an extension on the deadline for the Orion Global Op.

The new end time is now May 12th @ 18:00 UTC.
This extension was conceded due to "an issue this morning that caused Orion Global Op Points to stop recording" for about 45 minutes from 16:00 to 16:45 UTC. Points are being awarded since after this 45-minute-window.

Niantic announced a new free Campaign: "Hank Johnson: The Courier Files"

The campaign will be running from May 22 at 18:00 UTC to June 2 at 18:00 UTC. Completable up to 3 times, each run unlocks unique intel (we presume related to the lore).

The Orion Anomaly in Prague is being plagued by heavy lag since the start of the event, both on Scanners and on the Intel Map.

Niantic replied to a user via their Twitter account saying it is being investigated.

Orion Anomalies in Sydney & Prague: Servers Let Everyone Down

This weekend's Anomalies in Sydney, and even more evidently in Prague, were marred by severe server issues that lasted almost exactly as long as the event itself: starting when the Anomaly windows opened and ending the moment they closed. We, voicing the concern of POCs, Anomaly participants, and players supporting the Events remotely, want to take the unusual step of publicly calling out Niantic Spatial and holding them accountable for these issues.

What happened Saturday was very frustrating to witness for the Agents on site, and a competitive disaster which invalidates much of the work and preparations put into the strategies for the fight. Agents who spent real money on flights and hotels to compete at the main Ingress Live Events found themselves fighting the servers as much as the opposing faction, with Portals unresponsive and actions timing out. That led to the coordination and cooperation between Agents that Anomalies are known and loved for becoming useless, leaving the results to be decided by how many Players were able to have their actions registered, all while the clock ticked down on a four-hour window that can't be turned back.

Niantic acknowledged the problem on social media and Telegram, noting they were investigating, and mentioned infrastructure work from March aimed at improving performance (unclear if to name a possible culprit or to reassure Agents). That context does, however, not help Agents when the game is unplayable during the only hours that matter, and the response felt hollow as no other immediate actions followed.

Regardless of faction, every Agent on the ground deserved a fair fight. They didn't get one. Niantic Spatial owes the community a guarantee this won't repeat itself in Kure, Jersey City, Geneva, Lima, and beyond.

We join voices with the other faction-oriented Ingress information channels, such as @RGNNticker, @worldingressresistanceradio and @EGR_ticker, who are also expected to report about this outage with the voices of the organizers of these Events in the coming hours or several days.

Niantic has published a post-mortem update regarding the server issues experienced by players during Orion Sydney and Prague.

In the update, Brian Rose pinpoints the three main causes of this scanner instability:
1) Concurrent writes in the database causing gridlock - the new database struggled under heavy simultaneous traffic, slowing the near-real-time registration of actions.
2) Ghost records pileup - The game database needs to keep track of changes in Portals, Resonators and other game objects and the way it does so causes a "ghost record" to be left behind for some time. During the events, the high number of actions caused the database to become clogged with such ghost records.
3) Slow autoscaling - The upscaling of resources is usually done preemptively before an Anomaly, to allow the servers to take the hit from the sudden rush of traffic caused by a live event. However, due to the other two issues mentioned, the automatic upscaling system could not keep up.

The Ingress team did intervene during this timeframe to force the server resources onto higher-end machines and try to handle the traffic load, and it worked to the extent of keeping the game from crashing, but didn't fix the core issues.

Brian mentioned some new works in progress to prevent this from happening in future events:
1) Move to in-memory Portal updates - allowing game action to be processed faster initially, then saved to the database.
2) Change the way the database indexes time - eliminating the ghost records bottleneck
3) Pre-split Anomaly Zones in dedicated shards - to dedicate more resources to the Live Events in advance

As a mitigation step, the Ingress team will reduce the XMP Attack range but increase their strength, to try and reduce the number of updates caused by attacks. This update will be active from May 26th @ 17:00 UTC to June 1st @ 17:00 UTC.

Talks are ongoing between Niantic and the POCs of Prague and Sydney Anomalies, about a compensation specifically for participants to these events, as well as codes for Agents who contributed to the Anomaly but weren't awarded the Orion Anomaly Badge.

A make good loadout kit will be available for free on the Store for all Agents, starting May 22nd @ 17:00 UTC and for 7 days.
