Niantic has announced that, in an upcoming update, they will drop Ingress' support for 32-bit devices. This announcement comes shortly after the same decision was taken for Pokémon Go, and enables the development team "to streamline their development process and focus resources on supporting newer operating systems and technologies."
End of support is scheduled for June 2025.
On the source article, you can find some examples of devices that will not be supported any longer after this deadline.

The Global Challenge for the +Alpha Anomaly Series is starting on January 18th, in about one day depending on your timezone!
Agents will be able to complete a purposely-made Campaign to earn the 2-tiered +Alpha: Operation medal!
A doubt still remains about the distribution of Series Points for this Global Challenge since the rules for this series have not been published by Niantic yet, but if we take a look at the rules from the Erased Memories Series - which concluded in Q4 2024 - 200 Season Points were distributed based on the number of bounties completed by Agents of each Faction. We can expect something similar, although the final confirmation will come only once the rules are published, which we hope will happen in the next few hours.
We will keep you updated with news on the +Alpha Series rules as soon as we know more!

Niantic has announced the rules for the +Alpha Anomaly Series!
While the rules for Anomaly Events, Skirmishes and Bounty Blitzes seem to have remained largely the same, here are the rules for the +Alpha Global Campaign, which is starting at 00:00 local time on January 18th and will conclude on February 2nd at 23:59 local time
The +Alpha Campaign: Global will be activated in the scanner. Agents will be required to complete Bounties and obtain +Alpha Op Points to gain Season Points for their Faction and obtain the +Alpha Operation Medal.

Bronze tier: Complete Assignment 1 of the Campaign
Silver tier: Complete Assignment 3 of the Campaign
+Alpha Op Points
To complete some of the bounties, +Alpha Op Points are required. Agents can score Op Points by performing the following actions:
- Destroy a Mod: 2 points
- Deploy a Common Mod: 1 point
- Deploy a Rare Mod: 4 points
- Deploy a Very Rare Mod: 16 points
Each time a mod is deployed, each existing Mod owner and the Portal owner receive points based on the rarity of the deployed Mod.
- Common: 1 point
- Rare: 2 points
- Very Rare: 5 points
Season Points
100 Season Points will be distributed to the Factions based on the number of Bounties completed by Agents

Niantic has released Update 2.158.1 to the App Stores!
This update optimized some calls that are made to drawing graphics, which should improve performance, as well as fixing some issues in the New Agents tutorial.
In addition, while not mentioned in the changelog, the main menu now colors the outer ring of the Dispatch/Dronenet button if there is an update related to it, adding to the already existing dot to the left of the button text.

The +Alpha: Global Operation has started in the first regions of the world and the Campaign is now available there! Starting from Midnight local time, Agents have until the end of the 2nd of Febuary to complete their Bounties and Assignments to help out their faction and gain the Campaign medal.

The first reports from them, highlight that the quantities listed in the bounties keep increasing at a linear rate when the Campaign is repeated!
For example, let's consider the first "Obtain X +Alpha Op Points":

Niantic's Tintino has announced the opening of applications for a new batch of Wayfarer Ambassadors!
Ambassadors get preview access to Wayfarer's future, collaborating directly with the Community Manager on national and global events, and having their voice heard in shaping the platform's development. Some nifty benefits are also reserved to Ambassadors, such as Wayfarer swag and direct connection to Niantic Staff!
While you won't need to attend every session, your active involvement will help create a more welcoming and supportive environment for all Explorers. You will, however, be required to maintain confidentiality about sensitive information regarding the Wayfarer platform.
To be eligible, you must be 18 or older, maintain good standing in the community, and be able to communicate effectively in English. Previous Ambassadors with certain criteria will also be able to re-apply. Keep in mind that all candidates will undergo a background check, and those with multiple suspensions or TOS violations won't be considered.

The recent wildfires in Los Angeles County have devastated multiple communities, with the Palisades and Eaton fires being particularly destructive in residential areas. Multiple homes have been destroyed as the fires spread through densely populated neighborhoods. The fire had spread to more than 23,000 and 14,000 acres of land respectively and are classified as one of the most destructive and deadly in this county, having killed 27 people and destroyed more than a thousand structures. As of today, the fires still have to be totally contained.
Among those affected by the damages are two valued members of our Ingress family from Pasadena - agents TroutShorty (Neal) and agentumlaut (Alexandra) have lost their home in these fires. The “Lunar New Year 2025” Medal, representing the Snake will be available on the in-app store starting January 28th @ 1600 UTC until February 3rd @ 1600 UTC and it will cost 7000 CMU.
A special Campaign will be activated in the dispatch system! It will last from January 29th @ 00:00 to January 31st @ 23:59 local time, and it promises to bring some good rewards.

Eligibility Level Update - Discussion
Niantic announced a reduction in the Access Level needed to participate in Wayfarer from Ingress.
According to Tintino's article on the Wayfarer Forum, the Access Level to Wayfarer has been reduced from L10 to L8 to allow more Agents "to contribute to the game and help build a more vibrant and engaging experience for everyone regardless if they live in major metropolitan cities or small rural communities" given the difficulty in reaching higher levels on Ingress for players who reside in rural areas.
