OPR Live is changing!

Starting now, agents that reach the highest tier in the individual rewards for Niantic Wayfarer Challenges will receive a point for the OPR Live medal! Previously, this medal was only available as a paid add-on during certain anomalies, so for many agents this might be the first chance to unlock it.

Niantic notes that Wayfarer challenges will be limited to one per quarter, so going forward, 4 points for OPR Live can be gained per year.

The first opportunity starts now! The newest Wayfarer Challenge has just started and is underway for the next 7 days. We will post details in a separate post.

The Aye Aye Captain Challenge has begun! The Challenge will take place in Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan. The challenge begins now and ends on December 20, 2023 at 12:00pm PST (8:00pm UTC).

Among the rewards is a special treat for Ingress players: Agents who review at least 500 submissions from the Challenge countries will receive a point for the OPR Live medal!

The Wayfarer team has released their answers to the November 2023 AMA questions! We want to highlight the following answers:

🔸Wayfarer App

The Wayfarer team initially planned to release a standalone app for players in Summer this year. After being postponed initially, the team has announced that no further development on the app is planned and that the current version will be deprecated and closed soon. Developers that are currently using the app will be migrated to another app focused specifically on scanning.

🔸Removals

Niantic is working on updating the removals process by the end of the year to align it more towards the eligibility criteria for new Wayspots in addition to the already existing removal criteria. It is currently unknown if this will be handled on Niantics side only or if the games will recieve additional categories to report an invalid Wayspot as well, however the team hopes that players will see the results of this work before the end of their next AMA.

🔸Contribution Management

After being postponed multiple times Niantic has also announced that the update to the Contribution Management to show edits and pictures has been delayed again with no new estimate currently given. As opposed to the Wayfarer app however Niantic still wants to keep it on the list of features to work on, however at the moment other aspects like the abuse management system and the edits backlog take priority.

In August 2023, a string of wildfires ignited in Hawaii, mainly on the island Maui. Driven by strong winds, these fires led to evacuations, inflicted extensive damage, and resulted in the loss of a minimum of 100 lives.

As agents are preparing for the Honolulu anomaly this weekend, Niantic has announced that they will donate $1 for every Kinetic Capsule program claimed until the end of December. In addition, all of the revenue of the Year 11 shirts that is left over after Amazon takes their cut will be donated as well.

To motivate Agents to complete Kinetic Capsules Niantic has also added a new Kinetic Capsule program to the scanner. For the cost of 8 L1 XMPs (or higher level) and a massive 1 XM you'll recieve 3 Peace Beacons once you have walked 8km and the program is complete.

This Saturday, the 5th and final phase of the Discoverie Anomaly will take place in 🇱🇰 Colombo, 🇹🇷 İzmir and 🇺🇸 Honolulu, HI. As per each of the 2023 Anomaly weekends, Niantic has released two Character Medals: one from the archives, and a new AI-style counterpart.

This time it's the turn of ADA, A Detection Algorithm. The 2016 version of the medal is available in the store along with the new 2023 version. Both of these cost 30.800 CMU (23.99€ for the closest CMU pack) and each include 5 Kinetic Capsules and 2 Portal Frackers.

Honolulu, Hawaii is the setting of the final battle between Enlightened and Resistance to conquer the Discoverie Series.

With 600 points at stake and the score standing at ENL 1327 - 1222 RES, there are a couple of combinations and targets for both factions. We have summed them up here.

If the Resistance won the Discoverie Reclaimer Challenge, they would need to score at least 279 points in Honolulu to win the series. The Enlightened would need at least 322.

If the Enlightened won the Discoverie Reclaimer Challenge, they would need to score at least 179 points to win the series. The Resistance would need at least 422.

VPS activations are not possible at the moment

A lot of players have reported that trying to activate a Wayspot for VPS is not possible at the moment, instead giving out an error on Web or falsely showing that the activation started in the App.

It is currently unknown if this is a bug or a conscious decision by Niantic, however given that the problems started to appear around Friday the latter seems more likely.

To activate a Wayspot, players have to create a seperate account for the Lightship platform. That platform however is intended for developers using Niantic Lightship only and is worked on by a seperate team at Niantic than the Ingress team. It is possible (but not confirmed!) that the Lightship team was surprised by the sudden sign ups of non-developers and activation requests for VPS portals and decided to shut down VPS activations for the time being.

For agents, this means that there is currently no way to activate additional portals for Overclock. You'll have to use the existing activated portals or capture and mod more portals to finish the Chronos event.

❗️We want to remind again that the Lightship platform is intended for developers only. Using it to activate portals for Overclock is not its intended use and the Lightship team has every right to enforce this.
