This Saturday is First Saturday!
Niantic is giving out items each day leading up to the event, starting with a free pack of Common Heat Sinks which can be redeemed in the store right now. We speculate that these items are not intended to be 'rare' but should rather just be used to ensure a quick turnover at First Saturday locations.

After intercepting a transmission between Akira Tsubasa and Devra Bogdanovich about their newest (and potentially dangerous) experiment regarding Machina, the NIA has dug into their Archive and is re-relasing two medals!
Both the Akira Tsubasa 2017 and the Devra Bogdanovich 2017 medal bundles are now available in the scanner store alongside various items. Akira's bundle contains a few offensive items while Devra's bundle focuses on defensive ones.
Both bundles cost 30,800 CMU each (ca. 23β¬). It is currently unknown how long these medals will be available.

Niantic has released the details for the Operation Chronos event that starts in less than 24 hours!
From 6 December 2023, 00:00 UTC to Saturday, 6 January 2024, 00:00 UTC you'll earn Chronos points through the following actions:
πΈ1 Overclock Hack Point = 2 Chronos Points
πΈ1 Portal Capture = 1 Chronos Point
πΈ1 Mod Deploy = 1 Chronos Point
Agents meeting certain thresholds will be awarded the Chronos medal! There are two tiers with the following Chronos Point requirements:
πΈBasic: 500 Chronos Points
πΈAdvanced: 5000 Chronos Points
Overclock Hack Points are calculated depending on how long the successful glyph sequence of an Overclock is as well as if the Scanner successfully calibrated against the Portal. A L8 portal that was calibrated successfully against is therefore worth 40 Chronos points if all glyphs are entered correctly.
You can see how many points you'll get exactly per Overclock hack here: https://t.me/IUENG/6449

Does my device support Overclock?
Some Agents are unsure if their device supports hacking Portals via Overclock especially after the Scanning update after which a lot of phones became unsupported.
While your phone may not support scanning, the requirements for Overclock are less stringent which means that your phone could still support Overclock. To find out if your phone is supported, follow these steps:
πΈOpen the Remote View for the NL-1331 portal with Ingress via this link and open the portal details: https://link.ingress.com/?link=https://intel.ingress.com/p/6ddfcc922c1a4fc4a2c76786a4e7bb2b.16
πΈTap on the Overclock button to the right of the Hack button
One of two messages should now be shown:
πΈ"Device does not support Overclock": This message sadly means that your phone does not support Overclock. If you are on Android, double check if the Google Play Services for AR are installed and if not, retry the steps above
πΈ"Unable to Overclock remotely": This message means that your phone is supported! Now you just have to find a portal that has Overclock activated and start the AR hack. We will share tipps to find them in a seperate post soon.

With Operation Chronos coming up, Agents that haven't used it yet might be wondering how exactly Overclock works, how to find portals to Overclock and how to activate portals for Overclock themselves.
Agent a1mirr has written an excellent guide that covers all these questions and more! If you are chasing the Advanced Operation Chronos badge or if you just want to learn about Overclock, we strongly recommend you to read through this guide.
You can find the guide here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Zq5nQBR2wK84bgiHj3frVVtFgdP_gbo61cME7Mdq_LM/edit?usp=sharing

Niantic has published a modification to the scoring criteria for the Overclock Glyph points and in extension for Operation Chronos.
As of last night, failing a Reality Calibration will now result in a 0.25x multiplier on the Overclock Glyph points, awarding only one fourth of the previously gained points.
This means that the maximum Overclock Hack points available from an unmodded L8 Portal before burnout is now 32, but it requires waiting for the cooldown in between hacks, failing the calibration for the first 3 Overclock hacks and calibrating successfully for the last hack as opposed to gaining 20 points without waiting.
The maximum Chronos Points available from Overclock hacking a Portal are, hence, 64 on an unmodded L8 Portal.
Before the update, it was possible to repeatedly fail the Calibration but still gaining 15 Overclock Glyph points for correctly entering the 5 glyphs of a L8 portal, bringing the maximum to 65 points when calibrating for the last hack before Burnout and a total of 130 Chronos points.
See the updated rules on Niantic's blog: https://ingress.com/news/2023-chronos-ops/

π΅π’ Almost 60 players from both factions from all over Germany, Switzerland and Austria fought a great battle for the Portals at Mission Day Lite in Bad Buchau, Germany on the 3rd December 2023 in sunny -4Β°C and lots of snow!
The brave Agents defied adverse conditions, as it snowed non-stop for the 3 days leading up to the event and rail traffic came to a complete standstill. Some portals were rendered inaccessible because the paths had been flooded, but thanks to NIA's rapid response, this could be changed just in time for all Agents to enjoy the Mission Day.
A big thank you to Agent @Beruriernoir for this picture!

OPR Live is changing!
Starting now, agents that reach the highest tier in the individual rewards for Niantic Wayfarer Challenges will receive a point for the OPR Live medal! Previously, this medal was only available as a paid add-on during certain anomalies, so for many agents this might be the first chance to unlock it.
Niantic notes that Wayfarer challenges will be limited to one per quarter, so going forward, 4 points for OPR Live can be gained per year.
The first opportunity starts now! The newest Wayfarer Challenge has just started and is underway for the next 7 days. We will post details in a separate post.

The Wayfarer team has released their answers to the November 2023 AMA questions! We want to highlight the following answers:
πΈWayfarer App
The Wayfarer team initially planned to release a standalone app for players in Summer this year. After being postponed initially, the team has announced that no further development on the app is planned and that the current version will be deprecated and closed soon. Developers that are currently using the app will be migrated to another app focused specifically on scanning.
πΈRemovals
Niantic is working on updating the removals process by the end of the year to align it more towards the eligibility criteria for new Wayspots in addition to the already existing removal criteria. It is currently unknown if this will be handled on Niantics side only or if the games will recieve additional categories to report an invalid Wayspot as well, however the team hopes that players will see the results of this work before the end of their next AMA.
πΈContribution Management
After being postponed multiple times Niantic has also announced that the update to the Contribution Management to show edits and pictures has been delayed again with no new estimate currently given. As opposed to the Wayfarer app however Niantic still wants to keep it on the list of features to work on, however at the moment other aspects like the abuse management system and the edits backlog take priority.

In August 2023, a string of wildfires ignited in Hawaii, mainly on the island Maui. Driven by strong winds, these fires led to evacuations, inflicted extensive damage, and resulted in the loss of a minimum of 100 lives.
As agents are preparing for the Honolulu anomaly this weekend, Niantic has announced that they will donate $1 for every Kinetic Capsule program claimed until the end of December. In addition, all of the revenue of the Year 11 shirts that is left over after Amazon takes their cut will be donated as well.
To motivate Agents to complete Kinetic Capsules Niantic has also added a new Kinetic Capsule program to the scanner. For the cost of 8 L1 XMPs (or higher level) and a massive 1 XM you'll recieve 3 Peace Beacons once you have walked 8km and the program is complete.
You can buy the Year 11 shirt on Amazon through the links in this post: https://ingress.com/news/2023-year11-merch
