The newest game from Niantic, Monster Hunter Now, will release on September 14th! The games mascot is a palico, a creature who looks a lot like a cat and which will help you through your journey.
How does this relate to Ingress? With the newest update, we have discovered that the debug log shows an entry for "BN_MHN_PALICO", a Beacon which seemingly shows a Palico. This suggests that a crossover event will be happening at or near the launch of Monster Hunter Now in Ingress! While we can't deduce what exactly is included in this event, we're pretty sure that the Beacon above will see the light of day.

Niantic has released the rules for the #Discoverie Anomalies, which will take place in five phases:
P1) October 14th
P2) October 15th -> November 17th
P3) November 18th
P4) November 19th -> December 15th
P5) December 16th
In phases 1, 3 and 5, each Primary location is worth a total of 600 points, while each Satellite location is worth 200 points. These two totals will be split evenly between Battle Beacons and Flash Shards Challenge.
In phases 2 and 4, the winning faction will have 1.331x multiplier in the following phase.
Anomaly Zone Battle Beacons
πΈ 7 Battle Beacon waves in 3 hours, one every 25 minutes.
πΈ Each Battle Beacon is worth 2+3+4 = 9 points, based on checkpoints won.
πΈ Battle category does not affect the score.
πΈVolatile Battle Beacons are worth 3x the base points.
The maximum score for each faction from any of the Battle Beacon waves during the Anomaly Period is their raw score. The 100 or 300 points are divided in proportion to the raw score.
Flash Shards Challenge
πΈ20 Shards in groups of 2 and 4 target portals OR 50 Shards in groups of 5 and 10 target portals, depending on "XM intensity"
πΈShards jump via L4+ links every 10 minutes
πΈA new batch of shards is generated every 15 minutes
πΈEach shard is worth 2 points at Satellite sites and 6 points at Primary sites
The first five shards secured on a faction's target portal are counted, regardless of which faction controls the target portal at that time. Any additional shards after the fifth on the same target portal scores 0 points.
Phase 2: Discoverie Kinetic Challenge
The faction with the highest number of Agents claiming (not just completing!) 30 or more kinetic capsules will earn a 1.331x multiplier on their Phase 3 score.
The winner will be announced together with the scores of phase 3, with one midpoint partial score.
Phase 4: Discoverie Reclaimer Challenge
The faction with the highest number of agents reclaiming (neutralising, then capturing) at least 100 Machina Portals will earn a 1.331x multiplier on their Phase 5 score. The winner will be announced together with the scores of phase 5, with one midpoint partial score.
π Discoverie Medal
Interact with at least 5 Battle Beacons in the Anomaly Zone to earn the medal. Valid actions are:
- Deploy or upgrade resonators (not your own).
- Attack or destroy resonators
- Destroy portal mods
- Destroy links
- Recharge resonators (even remotely).
OR
Complete the minimum contribution during phases 2 or 4.
Links under fields
On any anomaly weekend, from Friday at 1700 UTC to Monday at 1700 UTC, links less than 8 km long can be created under field.

Agents have reported that new Media can be hacked from the Portal Network.
The researchers Akira Tsubasa (PxA) and Devra Bogdanovich (PxB) discuss the urgent need for collaboration regarding a frequency-based attack on Machina Portals. Akira has already implemented a theoretical paper's concept on harmonic communication in viruses and demonstrates its immediate effects on the red Portals. They express concerns about the long-term impact and adaptation of Machina, likening it to biological viruses.
Despite uncertainties, they agree to work together to address the imminent threat and potential origins of Machina, planning to use the XM resonance from the Kobe anomaly tomorrow for a network-wide attack against Machina.

Tomorrow is the start of Phase 3 of the Ctrl anomaly! Niantic has updated the store with the new Akira Tsubasa 2023 medal and the new Yuri Nagassa 2023 medal.
Both medals cost 30,800 CMU (about 23β¬) and come with 10 Rare Kinetic Capsules each. Buying one kit would therefore give you enough Kinetic Capsules to complete the Discoverie Kinetic Challenge next month if you don't have enough.
In addition, the ADA & Jarvis pack is also online again. One pack costs 3,000 CMU and contains one ADA Refactor and one JARVIS Virus. This pack has no purchase limit.

Niantic has acknowledged the issue that prevents devices that don't support the newest Lightship AR from scanning a portal and hanks agents for their reports as they are investigating.
If you experience the same issue, feel free to leave a comment in the bug report: https://community.ingress.com/en/discussion/comment/191863/#Comment_191863

As of 16:38 UTC today, the last Machina portal has decayed. There will be no more Machina spawns or spreads until after the first round of the Discoverie Anomaly next month.
Agents are reporting mixed results when capturing Portals that Machina decayed on, with some reporting that it counts as reclaiming it (+1 on the Machina Portals Reclaimed stat and +1331AP) with others reporting that it doesn't count.
