The on-site challenges for Epiphany Dawn Los Angeles have begun!

The first wave of the Battle Beacons Challenge is now appearing in the Anomaly Zone.

The Flash Shards Challenge will start in 30 minutes from now, with the first 4 Target Portals per Faction appearing.

@IUENG
The Resistance has established control with a linkstar extending over the whole playbox! The Enlightened have established some smaller stars at the sides of the Anomaly Zone.

The blues have an additional strategic advantage having won the GORUCK Stealth Ops Event during the night with the score of 3-2!
They have scheduled an additional Shard Jump at a time of their choice!

@IUENG
After the second set of Shards spawned, the Enlightened appear to have captured four!

22 Shards remain at large!

@IUENG
A bird's eye view of Victory Beacons on Portals! These Beacons spawn after a Battle Beacon is won by either Faction.

May include some Agent-deployed beacons 😅

@IUENG
With the latest jump, the Resistance captured some Shards in their southernmost Target Portal!

@IUENG
Niantic released scores for the first two waves of the Battle Beacons Challenge!

As a reminder, only the highest score for each Faction will count for the final score!

As it stands, the raw score would be:
ENL 531 - 160 RES
The final score for this first challenge would be:
ENL 131 - 39 RES

@IUENG
Did someone say MOAR SHARDS?
Another 13 were just added to the playbox!

Get them while they're hot, folks!

@IUENG
Members of our discussion group heard me say it: "Never let your guard down!"

Only the maximum score for each Faction will count in this challenge, so keep fighting until the time is up!

Here's another snapshot of Victory Beacons in the Playbox!

@IUENG

Found that little quirk about scoring in the Battle Beacon Challenge interesting?

The Flash Shards Challenge also has a catch: only the first 6 Shards that land on a Faction’s Target Portal will count towards the score!

An additional 4 Target Portals per Faction were added to the Playbox, there are now 12 for each team.

@IUENG
New Battle Beacons Challenge scoring update!

After 4 waves, the Resistance inches closer to the Enlightened, who did not improve their score.

Raw score
ENL 531 - 236 RES
Challenge Score
ENL 118 - 52 RES

@IUENG
The final batch of shards is now in play!

Shards will keep jumping until 16:40 local time (00:40 UTC)!

By the way, am I missing something or there are only 10 RES Targets? 🧐

@IUENG
In the (probably last) update on the Battle Beacons Challenge, the Enlightened improved their maximum score!

Raw score
ENL 565 - 236 RES
Challenge score
ENL 120 - 50 RES

@IUENG
Only 3 shards remaining to capture and roughly 20 minutes to go!

⚠️ Agents are confirming that only 10 Resistance Target Portals are visible on the Intel Map, there should be 12.

@IUENG
The last wave of Battle Beacons ends now and Shards will de-spawn in about 5 minutes. This marks the end of the hostilities on the Los Angeles Playbox!

Congratulations to all Agents who participated in Epiphany Dawn Los Angeles! Enjoy the After-Party!
Scores will be announced live at the venue. We will report them on the channel whenever they're available!

@IUENG
Results for Phase 1 of the Epiphany Dawn anomaly in Los Angeles, California were announced by Brian Rose at the After Party!

Connected Cells
ENL 50 - 50 RES

Battle Beacons
ENL 565 (120) - (50) 236 RES

Flash Shards
ENL 98 - 18 RES
(No change to the score for missing RES Targets, a similar issue happened in Munich last Anomaly)

TOTAL SCORE
ENL 268 - 118 RES

🟢 The Enlightened capture Epiphany Dawn LA! Congratulations!

@IUENG
Agents are reporting the appearance of Red Portals in the Ingress Portal Network!
They appear to be controlled by an "Unknown" Agent.

These portals are only visible by visiting a particular Intel Map link: intel-x.ingress.com

These Portals may be related to the previous announcements by Niantic regarding the addition of a new PvE game mode in Ingress. We will share more information about these new Portals whenever possible.

Agent @KyasR16 shared video of the Hacking and Capture of a Red Portal.

Apparently, when the Portal is neutralized, Resonators and Portal Mods drop to the ground and are available to pickup.

Based on Agent Reports, they all appear to be L1 Portals and give the same glyph when hacked: "Clear".
They deal 100% XM Damage upon hacking and drop keys along with some gear

@IUENG
Our dear @SmurfHunter went exploring some of the Red Portals that appeared tonight, and helped gather some more information about their behaviour. Here's what we found out, thanks also to reports from Agents in our Discussion Group!

These Red Portals appear to grow in Level if left untouched, (at a rate to be confirmed) the "plague" spreads to nearby Neutral Portals and Links get created to other Red Portals.
Ever watched the Ingress Anime?
This spread resembles a lot the one seen with Dark XM Portals in some Anime episodes.

Intel
• The Red Faction is called "Machina" on Intel Map data.
[To Be Confirmed] The new Intel-x Map appears to be faster than the regular Intel

Hacking
• Hacking or Glyph Hacking the Portal yields keys and gear as normal.
• Hacking the Portal has a chance to zap you, which causes the entire XM bar to be depleted. This applies also on Drone hacks!

Attacking/Flipping
• Attacking the Portal causes Resonators of the Portal's level and Portal Shields up to Very Rare, Turrets, Force Amps to be dropped to the ground, along with some Portal Keys. AP gained is 75 AP (150 because of the Event) per Resonator destroyed.
• Using a Jarvis Virus or ADA Refactor on one of these Portals simply neutralizes it, dropping installed Resonators and mods to the ground.
• When a portal is destroyed, no messages pop up in the game alerts, but on the Intel Map the "X destroyed a Resonator on Y" message can be seen.
• Killing a linked Red Portal only destroys the link, does not stop the spread of the "redness"

Linking
• Red links block other Faction's links.
• Red Links appear to be created even over existing Blue or Green Links.
Red Portals do not follow normal linking rules. Up to 11 links have been spotted originating from a single portal. In this case, the center was a L4 Portal

This post will be updated with anything new that's found by the community!

@IUENG
🎉 Today it's Ingress' 10th birthday! It's officially 10 years since Ingress first released to users.

We would like to congratulate Niantic for this incredible milestone, and we wish our favourite game at least 10 more years of fun adventures and explorations!

A Community Forum Post was made by some Agents to collect gratitude messages for this game and its community! You can contribute here: https://community.ingress.com/en/discussion/20573/thank-you

@IUENG
As more information is collected about the Machina Portals that are being spotted all around the world, we are trying to research patterns in their behaviour.
To help all Agents in understanding what's up with this new feature in-game, we compiled all our findings and hypotheses in a handy Telegra.ph Post which we can keep up to date.

https://telegra.ph/Machina--Red-Faction-Information-11-15

Our discussion group is open in case you want to discuss your findings on the matter, or if you want to contribute to the document! We are looking forward to hearing your feedback!

P.S. take all info in this article with a grain of salt. When more info will be released by Niantic, we'll let you know!

@IUENG
Niantic has introduced some Agent Stats to track your interactions with red Portals, which appear to be canonically named Machina Portals.

The new stats are:
🔸 Machina Resonators Destroyed
🔸 Machina Portals Destroyed
🔸 Machina Links Destroyed

In introducing these stats, Niantic has mentioned the red portals for the first time in a social media post.
