Niantic published the release notes for Ingress Prime v2.89.1!
In this version, a new feature will be introduced: FITREP (Fitness Report)
FITREP is "a weekly summary of distance trekked and progress towards Kinetic Capsule Programs to remind more Agents to refine items with Kinetic Capsule and move towards Trekker."
Among the fixed bugs, the Ingress account deletion flow in Settings menu was improved with the addition of a "Delete my account" button and a bug where Agents were able to recycle premium items was fixed.
Known Issue
Some Agents may have the FITREP pop up more than once a week. The team is working on it, and it will be fixed in Ingress v2.91.

Adventure Sync: Weekly Summaries
After the introduction of Adventure Sync, Niantic is planning to add a weekly summary of your activity and adding rewards for weekly activity levels, in a Hackstreak kind of fashion.
Second Sunday
The new Second Sunday tiered medal will be available starting from the February events. Niantic hopes this will encourage Agents to experiment with new features and functionalities.

Until now, Ingress always superimposed the game and the story to the real world but, with the implementation of Lightship Real-Time Meshing, it will be possible to actually bring camera based AR to the game and see the outcome of all the Portals Scans we've been making.
Events and more recruits as building blocks
Global Challenges (with the form of distributed live events using Battle Beacons and other game mechanics) and Cross-Faction events (First Saturday, Second Sunday,...) will continue to be offered. The New Agent Training is being improved to help Agents understand the game and continue beyond the first actions.
Financial stability
Niantic states that C.O.R.E. subscription have helped greatly in sustaining the cost of Ingress, as well as optional cosmetic Medals and a plan to make the infrastructure Ingress runs on more and more cost effective. Niantic is committed to support Ingress to Year 10 and beyond!

Niantic released some details about Phase 2 of the Kureze Effect Anomaly which will be played from February 19th to February 21st.
In this next phase, Beacons will not be tied to specific cities, but Portals where Niantic will deploy a Beacon will be chosen among those with the highest Agent activity.

The colleagues of @BehindTheScannerChinese, an Ingress news channel for China, have learned in a First Saturday chat from Hilda (Niantic APAC Community Manager) that there will be a new medal in the store for Valentine's Day! This one will be pink and probably cost 2500 CMU, just like the other medals. Exactly what the medal will look like and when it will be in the store is still unknown.

Niantic has released the rules for the Kureze Effect Anomaly, phase 2!
The Event will take place from February 18th to February 21st.
🔸Starting now, ornaments are appearing on Portals which will have a Battle Beacon deployed on by NIA. Battle Beacons will appear between 1430 and 1730 local time. Portals may host a NIA Battle Beacon more than once.
🔸Like in phase 1, Agents will be able to deploy Battle Beacons of any rarity on any Portal to take part in the Event.
🔸The sum of each Battle Checkpoint Score will be multiplied by 1, 2, 3, 6, 7 or 8 based on the Battle Category (CAT-I to CAT-VI) and assigned to the relative Faction's Event Score. Score is then multiplied by 5 (not 10, as in phase 1) if the portal is in one of NIA's playzones and deployed by NIA.
🔸The Final Score will be published within 24 hours of the Event End together with:
- Top 10 Regional Cells with highest points scored in total
- Top 10 Regional Cells with highest points scored by RES
- Top 10 Regional Cells with highest points scored by ENL
- Top 10 Regional Cells with highest percentage of points scored by RES
- Top 10 Regional Cells with highest percentage of points scored by ENL

To obtain the medal, Agents need to interact with at least ten (10) Battle Beacons scored in any of the three Event Phases (Jan 23rd, Feb 19th, Mar 19th). Medal will be unlocked instantly.
An Agent Profile metric is available to monitor the progress during the Event.

Interactions made by Agents during the 10-minute initialisation period of Battle Beacons, will be counted as Kureze Effect interactions and will impact the CAT-level of the battle.
As a reminder, valid interactions are:
