After almost exactly a year, we finally got the answer to the mysterious fingerprint badge that was accidentally posted with the announcement of the Niantic profile: This medal was an early design or placeholder for the C.O.R.E. medal. Niantic decided against using that design, and instead created the design you see in the scanner today.

The Optima Kinetic Challenge returns from Friday, 17 September at 1600 UTC to Monday, 27 September 1600 UTC with new tiers!

Previous metric should go live at the beginning of the event, and a free and paid Kinetic bundles will be available!

Plus, the programs will be modified during the event:

The release notes for version 2.81.1 have been published. Among other things, the problem that only the last few COMM notifications were displayed until the game was restarted has been fixed, as well as the problem that no fireworks could be used on a portal with a battle beacon. Attempting to move a drone to a portal with a maximum of 8 drones now also reopens the option to choose a different portal.

Niantic has announced changes for submitting portal edits as well as portal suggestions.

Niantic will change the old contribution limit mechanism from a 14-day waiting period to a daily contribution system, with the maximum daily quota increasing depending on the contribution type. This will apply to Wayspot nominations, edits, and AR scans. This will be reflected in the info text in your settings and in the nomination or edit screens.

🔸New nominations - 1 daily increase / 40 maximum.
🔸Title edits - 2 daily increase / 40 maximum.
🔸Description edits - 2 daily increase / 40 maximum
🔸Location edits - 1 daily increment / 40 maximum
🔸Photo submissions - 2 daily increments / 40 maximum
🔸Notification of invalid portals - 2 daily increments / 40 maximum
🔸AR scanning* - 10 daily accrual / 200 maximum.

This change will be applied to Ingress once some outstanding code changes are made.

The Event will span from November 15th to November 29th with the following bonuses active:
• Increased attack gear drop for hacks on enemy Portals

An Ingress First Saturday event has been organized in Glasgow, in anticipation of the 26th Climate Change Conference in Glasgow, Scotland.

"We invite you to a virtual Ingress First Saturday on the topic of sustainability and environmental protection. We want to discuss ideas, thoughts, problems and solutions on the topic and encourage you to take action yourself."

For this event, in addition to participating as Ingress Agent and competing with your stats, you are also invited to actively participate by creating a project on the topic of climate and environmental protection or Sustainability to win additional prizes! Be it by yourself, with friends, your IngressFS group, your local community or with the whole world. Some examples of activities you can engage in are: garbage clean up events, implement recycling, renounce environmentally harmful means of transport, use ecological products, start (urban) gardening, support existing projects, educational work, plant trees, renounce plastic and disposable packaging, peaceful demonstration, show companies, authorities and politicians your point of view on the topic, and so on...

Guidelines
• your project should not harm anyone or anything
• comply with local laws and regulations
• document your project as text and picture/video
• on the pictures/videos it has to be clear what your project is and who was involved and how it was realized
• [optional] share your project publicly on social media channels and in the community chats, forums and so on
• send the Orga Team at least 3 meaningful pictures (or 1 Video), a report and the names of the participating agents/persons with the form until November 6, 2021 23:59 UTC±0.

The release notes for version 2.82.1 have been published. Niantic is currently focusing on the tutorial for new agents and is trying to keep new players in the game and grow the Ingress community. Therefore, the bug fixes only affect the tutorial.

Bug fixes

• After capturing two Portals, the Agent Tutorial skipped forward to Faction selection for some new recruits.
• Linking screen was still visible and overlapped the Faction selection screen.
• Android Back button didn’t close Faction or codename selection screens.

On October 9th 2021, Agents from both factions set out to draw this wonderful bird-themed cross-faction field art in Turku, Finland! This creation is called "Ornis Turkuensis" ("The Bird of Turku") and, according to the creators, the original idea for this art rose uniquely from the passion of doing art for art's sake over faction borders, and doodling over a variety of possible field themes and shapes in this particular region of their country.

After two months of planning leading up to the two hours of fielding, this is the breathtaking result! Congratulations to all Agents involved!

Adventure Sync and Portal Scan Meshing are coming to Ingress!

Adventure Sync will be available soon. It connects to Google Fit or Apple HealthKit to record your walking distance, even when the Ingress scanner is not open. When you enable it, your walking distance will be recorded in the background and count towards your Trekker Medal and Kinetic Capsule program. When enabled, this feature should improve the accuracy of recording your run distance.

Also, Niantic is adding real-time mapping from Niantic Lightship to enable Portal Scan Meshing. Like Adventure Sync, meshing is an optional feature that allows agents to better see what was and wasn't scanned during a portal scan. Niantic is starting with a small list of supported Android and iOS devices and will expand that list over time.

The Halloween Event announced by Niantic was officially presented on the community forums! Starting Thursday, 21 October, 16:00 UTC and spanning until Monday, 1 November, 16:00 UTC, the following bonuses will be active for Agents:

• 125 AP per Resonator destroyed or upgraded, Mod destroyed and recharge
• 313 AP per link destroyed
• 1250 AP per field destroyed
• 4 mods deployable by a single Agent

New items will be introduced in the Ingress in-app Store for the duration of the event:

• 120 L2 Resonators (1000 CMU)
• limited-time Halloween 2021 Medal (see picture) (2500 CMU)

Thia posted an update on current lags, missing portals, and a plan for new features by the end of 2021.

🔸The cause of the current lags, which slows down the game for some actions, has not been found yet. The Ingress team is continuing to investigate, but can't give an indication of when the lags will be fixed yet.

🔸The Ingress team, along with the Wayfarer team, is also continuing to search for the cause of portals as well as editing which make it into other Niantic games but don't show up in Ingress. However, since the cause is not yet known, the team also cannot give a time frame by when the problem can be solved.

Agent @fenixruivao started an expedition across Brasil from "Oiapoque" to "Chuì", as many Brasilian songs tell about, with his specially modified pickup truck!
