In the early hours of October 1st, we interviewed Ingress Producer Brian Rose! We had a great time talking to him, we thank him for the time he dedicated to us and the great insights he provided on our favourite game!
We talked about what decisions go into making balance changes, the Mission backlog, the COVID-19 pandemic, how it impacted the Ingress team and their plans once it is over and much more.
A big thank you goes also to the Ingress Community, for helping us decide what to ask Brian.
You can check out the video recording of our meeting on YouTube. We have added timestamps in the description so you can scan through the various phases of the interview, as well as see what topics were brought up.

Brian will also post a summary of the answers to our questions to the forums in the near future. Stay tuned, we'll let you know once they're posted!

Agents noticed some useful changes to the Intel Map's interface!
Some new filter options were added to toggle Enlightened, Resistance or neutral portals, links and fields on or off, and to toggle Links and Fields on or off altogether. Furthermore, a new button that will redirect you to the Mission Authoring tool has appeared above the Mission List.
Check out the new changes at intel.ingress.com!

Here are further details on how the Kinetic Capsule works.
In these screenshots you can see the interface of the new Capsule and the starter bundles available for a limited time on the shop.
• Once the Crafting Program starts there is no way to pause or stop it, and items are immediately removed from your inventory.
• Crafted items will be claimable even if your inventory is full.
• There are some locked slots in the Capsule interface, will some recipes need 6 different ingredients to be executed?

Agents all around the world may have experienced some downtime on the Ingress App due to the massive linkstars created on the last two weekends.
ofer2, from Niantic, addressed the issue in a comment under the forum post lamenting the server problems. We're reporting a brief summary here.
Niantic currently scales servers up or down manually in anticipation of high usage periods (First Saturdays, Events, etc). The team is looking into a few different possible ways to mitigate the effect of this practice on the game itself:
• always scaling up servers on the weekend
• optimizing the routing servers to be able to handle more traffic overall
• make it so that the servers automatically scale up and down
• separate out the components exerting the most load on the servers to make sure that links/linking doesnt bring down the game for everyone else
On a side note, ofer2 stated the latest downtime to be his own fault due to an incorrectly configured notification (the event occurred at night for him) which didn't wake him up, and that he has since made sure this won't happen again on his part.

Another mark in the Wayfarer roadmap (which you can read in our earlier post) has been checked!
Agent @Japo975 reports that picture rating is now among the possible reviews for Wayfinders!
This new type of feedback from reviewers will help Niantic prepare "for a future where the best image gets utilized in-games".

Live events have been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but now Niantic has decided to update us about them, searching new alternatives for live events that can be played with your safety as top priority.
- The Nemesis Sequence remains on hold, and will resume with the final Requiem Anomaly at a future date, yet to be determined. The Anomaly Points earned from Umbra and Myriad Anomalies will be factored into the Nemesis Sequence scoring, and its Key Advantages will be identified and selected in advance by each Faction to be used in the final competition.
- A new competitive season of Ingress will begin with the Eos Protocol, that is a 3-stage event, spanning November to December, with one Faction winner:
1. Phase 1: “Light Up the Portal Network”
2. Phase 2: “See With New Eyes”
3. Phase 3: “Capture Their Minds”

Update on Live Events
Earlier this year, we postponed our planned live events because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Niantic shared the release notes for the new Ingress Prime version, v2.58.1!
In this update, a fix for COMM jumping to the oldest message was introduced (although some Agents report it not having any effect, ed.).
In addition, the team fixed the "NHLDNMECGPG" error concerning drones and insufficient XM and the bug that loaded codename selection if the app was restarted during the initial onboarding of a new agent.
Some potential fixes are also part of this update: one attempts to fix the location whenever the app is returned to from background, the other focuses on the inability for some agents to create a Link until restarting the app.
