Google confirms that their social networking platform, Google+, is going to be shutdown for consumers after a security breach that exposed the data of around 500 thousands users.
It's been a fundamentally important tool for the Ingress community in its 7 years of service.
To give people a full opportunity to transition, the Big G will implement this wind-down over a 10-month period, slated for completion by the end of next August. Over the coming months, they will provide consumers with additional information, including ways they can download and migrate their data.

The rules for the Recursion Prime events have revolutionised our idea of an Anomaly as all of the four main challenges will happen at the same time for the full extent of the Event. Here is a simplified explanation of the challenges Agents will be facing with! We will be posting about every challenge through the next days!
The measurements, same for all Phases of the Anomaly Events, are the following:
• Hour 1: one Measurement every 30 minutes (2 in total)
• Hour 2: one Measurement every 20 minutes (3 in total)
• Hour 3: one Measurement every 15 minutes (4 in total)
Competition 1 - Portal Control Battle
Duration: 3 hours, full Anomaly length
Points to split: 100
Many of you will remember this classic, but this time there is a twist: the challenge lasts all the 3 hours!
The two factions will have to capture the highest number of active Portals in the Anomaly Zone (highlighted by an orange ornament, worth 1 point). Volatile Portals (highlighted by an orange ornament with an additional outer circle, worth 10 points) will also spawn and continually change for every measurement.
The 100 points at stake will be divided based on the highest scores by each faction in any of the measurements and its percentage in relation with each other.
In the picture, you can see the ornaments for ordinary Portals and Volatile Portals. All the ornamented Portals involved in other Phases are counted as Ordinary.

As a player, former player community organizer, and now community manager for Ingress at Niantic, I am acutely aware of what Google+ meant to Ingress and in particular the use of its Community tool. I'm hoping we, Niantic, can help players with the transition off Google+. What that looks like, I don't know at this point. But I have some ideas. This isn't catching us flat footed though and we have already had sporadic conversations for a while about what a post Google+ world looks like. More to come..."

Phase 2 - CIRCLE OF MEMORIES
Duration: 3 hours, full Anomaly length
Points to split: 100
To score in this challenge, the Factions will be required to create fields with the anchors on two 'Peripheral Portals' (highlighted with a purple ornament) and on a non-Anomaly Zone Portal. At each Measurement Time (same for all the challenges, since they last for the full event), the presence of such Unique Fields will be measured and every Field that follows this criteria will score 1 point for the respective Faction, consequenly, a Faction’s score at each Measurement will be the count of the number of Unique non-Anomaly Zone Portals used in a Periphery Field.

In the European night, Niantic announced the release a of a list of 300 portals all around the world, associated with the upcoming Dark XM Beacon operation occurring in Tokyo this weekend. 3 files, one for each World Region (Asia, EMEA and Americas) containing 100 portals each will be released by Niantic throughout the day.
Hacking these Portals will reveal a single-use Passcode, which if redeemed will help to unlock the location of one Dark XM Beacon for the omonimous Event in Tokyo on Saturday! Every list will expire in 8 hours and the list for Asia is already out on Ingress' G+ page, so be ready to move, Agents!

Competition 3 - NOMAD'S JOURNEY
Duration: 3 hours, full Anomaly length
Points to split: 100
To score in this challenge, the Factions will be required to create the longest path made of maximum 8 Links between Anomaly Zone Portals. These paths will have to originate from one of the Faction-specific Start Portals (ornamented as in the picture). At each Measurement Time (same for all the challenges, since they last for the full event), the total length of the link paths (not the number of links) will be measured and the highest lengths achieved over all Measurements will be used as that Faction’s raw final score.
Note that a Link Path that closes in on itself (a loop) will terminate the Path at that point, negating the Link that connects to the already used Portal.
The 100 points at stake will be divided based on the highest scores by each faction in any of the measurements and its percentage in relation with each other.

Penultimate post about the new anomaly rules! We'll explain the fourth competition and the global MU Challenge. Tomorrow, in our final post, increased AP gain and series scoring will be explained!
Competition 4 - AWAKEN THE PORTALS
Duration: 3 hours, full Anomaly length
Points to assign: 33
Each registered and checked-in Agent will have the number of Unique Anomaly Zone Portals they hack counted. For each Faction, the highest and lowest 15% will be removed, and from the remaining Agents, the average number of Unique Anomaly Zone Portals Hacked per Agent will be selected as the Faction’s final raw score.
The 33 points at stake will be obtained by the Faction with the highest score.
GLOBAL MU CHALLENGE
Duration: 19 hours, duration of ALL the Anomaly Events
Global MU levels will be measured at the beginning of the Asian Anomalies. (4:00 UTC). The Faction that will increase this value the most by the end of the American Anomalies (23:02 UTC) will obtain 3 points in the Series Score.
