Today is the turn of the second phase! Next up: the third phase, sampling bonus and prime challenges. Let us know if an explanation of the Add-on Events is appreciated ;)
Phase 2 - Shard Battle
Jumps: 13
Duration: 1 hour
Points to split: 100
Another classic in the history of the Anomaly Challenges! Just before the beginning of this phase, a number of Research Nodes (particularly ornamented portals, yellow for the ENL and red for the RES) will spawn on the Map, along with a number of shards. Both numbers are reported in the table at the bottom.
Shards will try to jump every 5 minutes along links between L4+ Portals to reach the research nodes of both Factions, but their behaviour follows some rules:
• Shards will not backtrack to a portal they have already been to in the previous 13 minutes (2 jumps).
• If a Shard ends on a Research Node that has been already visited by the same Shard, it won't score a point.
• If multiple Links start from the same Portal, the Shard on it may travel along whichever Link and if multiple Shards are on a Portal, they may travel along different Links.
Each time a Shard travels on a Research node, it will score a point for the relative Faction independently from the Portal ownership.
The 100 points at stake will be split based on the percentage of the total points scored by each Faction.
Fields over the Anomaly Zone will be removed in this phase. Moreover, Decoders can discover in advance the position of the Research Nodes!

Phase 3 - Starburst Challenge
Measurements: 2
Duration: 1 hour
Points to split: 100
In this phase, a set of Target Portals (with yellow or red ornaments for, respectively, ENL and RES) will spawn on the Map, Agents will have the goal of creating as many link as possible which originate or land on those specific Portals.
The first measurement will happen 30 minutes after the start of the phase in a 2 minutes window; after that, all Targets will disappear and a new set of Targets (double the amount!) will be highlighted on the Map. The last Measurement will happen 60 minutes after the start of the Phase in a 2 minutes window.
Note that, if a Link connects two Targets, it will score two points.
As usual, Decoders can discover in advance the location of the Targets.
The 100 points at stake will be divided based on the highest scores by each faction in any of the 2 measurements and its percentage in relation with each other.

The Ingress Scanner app, the Intel Map website and the Pokémon Go App have become unresponsive to some Agents, for others it's just extremely slow on login. We are waiting for official communications by Niantic.

The Events will take place at 3 national parks:
• Ocmulgee National Monument, Georgia
• Fort Vancouver National Historic Site, Washington
• Fort Raleigh National Historic Site, North Carolina

Sampling Bonus
Duration: the entire Event
Points to split: 50
To win the 50 points at stake, the Agents of both Factions will have the goal of hacking as many Unique Anomaly Portals (ornamented during the Event) as possible over the course of the Event. Only the Agents who had their ticket scanned at the Registration and have hacked the Registration Portal may take part in the challenge. At the end of the Anomaly, the Unique Hacks for each Agent will be tallied, but the top and the bottom 15% of the Agents for each Faction will be removed.
50 points will be split based on the percentage of the total points scored by each Faction.
Prime Challenges
These Challenges will be available only in Primary Sites on the same day as the Anomaly Event, the ticket price is 17€/20$/2500￥. Agents will be able to take part in phisically and mentally demanding tasks with the goal of bringing 50 points to the winning Faction! Keep your eyes open if you are in one of these cities!

Dominik Schönleben answered to a lot of questions in the post, let's know him more:
Dominik is the new EMEA Community Manager. He lives in Germany, and obviously speaks German but also English and can read a bit of French. He started playing Pokemon Go and enjoyed it, then his girlfriend showed him Ingress. His IGN is "nerdmeetsyou" and now he is L6. When he installed the game he chose Enlightened, but he promised to be objective and take no sides while taking decisions as a Manager.
Prior to Niantic he was a writer for WIRED Germany for four years reporting on games, geeks, and gadgets, the "three important Gs". This is how he discovered his love for augmented reality gaming. He's also written for other media outlets such as the Huffington-Post, Vice, and Focus Online. When not exploring the world playing Niantic games, he usually plays on his Nintendo Switch. He especially enjoys indie games and when he wants to disconnect from the Portal network he enjoys playing board games. His absolute favorite is Arkham Horror, the card game.
Dominik has an awesome beard, this is why some questions were on that. This is what he answered: "All beards are majestic and beautiful in their own ways. There should be no beard on beard violence. All beards are winners."
What about food? He is fructose intolerant, so doesn't eat fruit. Carbonara is his favourite italian food, but it has to be made without cream like they did in the old days in Italy. Alike Andrew Krug, he has a family secret recipe: the most delicious Italian nut cake in the world that has been passed down for generations. His Father is master pastry chef, like his Grandad, and the only thing we know about the cake is that is made with marzipan. His favourite beer is Augustiner Helles, drinks coffee and only green tea.
Dominik will not be involved in planning events but he will take all of the feedback players have and provide it to the team. Players can share their ideas, concerns, and questions with him directly, contacting him on telegram @nerdmeetsyou. He will also be involved with identifying EMEA POCs for various Ingress events. His focus initially will be on finding a way to bring new players in the community. He would be happy to consider to do an AMA if players would like it.
