Niantic Inc. plans to map the world in 3D with its players' help establishing the startup as a frontrunner in a new facet of digital mapping. What the company describes as an "AR map" is viewed as crucial to advanced augmented reality apps. [...]
Mapping will start with public spaces such as parks and plazas, he said, declining to specify when. Nor did he disclose how AR maps would fit into Niantic's games. But based on existing features, players would turn on their cameras to visualize characters among their surroundings. Software would generate a map by automatically identifying contours and objects in the scene as a user plays. [...]
It appears to be more than a side project. Hanke said Niantic would allow third-party developers to use its AR map, which industry executives estimate could become part of a multibillion-dollar global business.

We have heard your concerns about Help Center tickets being auto-closed and we wanted to clarify our process. In the past, it was possible that certain categories of tickets would be closed without a response. Currently, our process is to review and respond to all tickets submitted via the Help Center*. Due to system limitations, reports for inappropriate gameplay may receive a separate email once the report is reviewed. If your ticket is closed, you should have received an email with the subject ‘Thanks for contacting Ingress’ confirming the ticket has been reviewed.
It is important to note that when an account is reported to us, not all outcomes may result in an account being banned. Based on our policy, we may warn a person, place restrictions on their account, or take other appropriate actions.
For privacy reasons, we cannot share specific details about our internal processes but rest assured we do read and review all appeals that are submitted. We will remain unable to publicly address specific cases.
The following information is all you need to share while reporting a player:
- Abuser Agent name
- Date/Time of the event (including timezone)
- Name of the Portal affected
- Location of the Portal/Intel Map link
Any additional details mentioned in the ticket may not impact the investigation. Please note that duplicate tickets or mass-reporting only delay our response time on all tickets.

Archetype: Alchemist
We live in an unbalanced world. We produce more goods than we can consume and consume more than we need. The result is an excess of waste, that society tries to manage with unsustainable techniques. The technological revolution has also greatly increased the need for energy and our society mostly still depends on unsustainable fossil fuels.
This research group theorized that the Alchemist is able to transform input from reality, such as energy from a solar cell, into XM. At Schloss Kaltenberg, they expect to find out how to use the Alchemist's ability to manipulate a Portal in augmented reality with sustainable input from reality, using a Techtulhu module to monitor the Alchemist's influx.
The proposal is a competition in which both factions will have to generate more energy than the other. Two players from each faction will pump air to make some whirligigs player turn. The faster the whirligigs spin, the more points are earned. The portal network is hooked up to the game. The Faction owning the Portal will gain all points for every turning whirligig!

Niantic reminds everybody that purchasing in-game items from unauthorized sellers is a violation of the Ingress Terms of Service.
They also specify that they’ve taken action against various Item Sellers and have banned over 6,000 accounts related to these stores!
In addition, Agents that have repeatedly purchased items after having received warnings previously will be temporarily or permanently banned.
Edit by NIA: We'll only ban accounts that directly purchased the items.
