Niantic announced that in preparation for the launch of Ingress Prime, the format of Mission Days will be temporarily changed from Events starting on May 26th until Events coming after Q4 anomalies.
With the new format you’ll be using a map that Mission Day organizers will distribute either via hard copy or electronically. It will contain a list of portals that you will be required to hack and a new optional element that is best described as a "Portal challenge" where you are asked to perform a task at a specific Portal. Complete a certain number of these tasks image specific time frame to be eligible for the Mission Day medal.
In addition to these changes, Niantic is temporarily closing the Mission Day application.

As requested by their post, we asked Niantic some questions about the new Mission Days mechanics!
Will the portals be in the same game area?
This is up to the Mission Day POCs.
Will the mission day map be distributed some days before the event?
That's what we are aiming for. It is similar to what we have done for other Mission Days in the Asia Region.
Will the task be an Ingress action or an actual action like taking a picture?
Probably a mix of both.
Will the time frame be big enough to leave Agents the opportunity to do hacks at night before their flight back?
When check-in occurs is typically decided by the Mission Day POCs. That said, with having the maps in advance, there should be no reason to not do them in advance as sometimes Agents choose to do.

A new Global Challenge has been issued to Agents all around the world! It's an unofficial challenge that will help the Ingress Lore investigators learn more about an unknown research project: TS-MORPHEUS
A checkpoint was established at 23:59 UTC on May 9th. By this time, agents around the world have to complete these two different achievements:
- A Linkstar with 50+ links and a total (with all other linkstars) of 250 links
- A BAF with 500k+ MUs and a total (with all other BAFs) of 25 Million MUs!
These objectives are independent from which Faction builds the Linkstars or BAFs. In fact, the collaboration between factions is encouraged to reach the goal!
