Question 1
+Aaron P: The stock intel map remains useful but it has plenty of room for improvement. Are any enhancements planned for the stock intel map with 2.0 and can you comment on what those may be? and when is the gold Krug medal coming out?? Many thanks for doing this q&a!
Answer 1
I haven't heard of anything planned for the Intel map at the launch of Ingress 2.0. Right now we have our devs focusing on ensure the basic functionality of Ingress 1.0 in-app works in Ingress 2.0 at launch. There have been many conversations about the Intel map. However, to my knowledge, nothing has been finalized. But stay tuned... we all acknowledge that there is room for improvement.
You don't want my mug in your scanner. Trust me. It's bad luck. First you'll grow a beard. Then anyone that touches your scanner grows a beard. Before you know it society will be filled with Lumbersexuals. It doesn't end well.
Q2:
+diane wilson: As new portals are being approved there are a few rejects that people would like to appeal, is the portal appeals community being monitored by someone at niantic, or is there a better place to appeal a rejected portal?
A2:
The Portal Appeals Community is activity monitored by +NIA Ops. To my knowledge, that's probably the best place for those kind of appeals.
Q3:
+Matt Cuzner: If you had to describe yourself with a 3 glyph combination, what would it be and why?
A3:
All, Human, Equal. Why? I try to look at the world objectively as much as I can.
Q4:
+Kira Kage: Any news on those anomaly rules?
A4: As I understand it, the goal is to have them out within the next couple of weeks.
Q5:
+Brent Hollett: Will Seer return?
A5: We had a lot of conversations about this. As I understand it, given the last internal conversations, in some form or function it will. It might not be the current Seer (or it might). But the metric of discovering portals is something we are proponents of.
Q6:
+Hedi Pihlamägi: Do portals have a higher chance of providing more rare/vr items upon hacking when you hack them for the first time (or just for the first time in a long time) ?
A6:
It is all a random roll of the dice. There is no higher chance on the first hack or the first time in a long time.
Q7:
+Minnie Max: A few years in game and I still see debate about it: if your only action on a portal is deploying a mod, will your explorer badge be increased?
A7:
No your explorer badge will not be increased.
Q8:
+kok hang Koh: Do goruck badges possible happened at satelite location or just primary. Sorry I don't have that badge.. so I want to get 1.and Q3 Q4 I going both anomaly was satelite .. not primary. Hope you can spot my question.thanks
A8: If a +GORUCK event is held in a city (primary or satellite) you can earn a badge for it. It is not specific to only primaries GORUCK events.
Q9:
+Kep Tararidh: What criteria should a city have in order to have an anomaly?
A9: Portals.

Q10:
+Antony Dovgal Why does Ingress support multiple accounts at all? What's the reason to support it and prohibit it in the ToS? IMO it causes a lot of problems with multiaccounters and adds almost zero value for legit users.
A10:
Ingress is a global game. As such it crosses a lot of boundaries. In some countries, families cannot afford to have more than one device or it is shunned to have more than one device because it is deemed an opulent expense. We do not limit the amount of accounts on a single device because it would prevent a segment of our playerbase from ever enjoying Ingress.
Q11:
+Suus B: Shouldn't Niantic ask/listen to agents about what features they would like in new versions of Ingress?
A11:
Yes. I wrote down 13 pages of notes from my European travels a few weeks ago and forwarded those on. We do listen and I definetly ask. We do have to prioritize things and base the work on available resources as well though so not everything can get implemented. There is also the matter of keeping the game economy in balance and check. The last thing want to do is introduce a feature that has unintended consequences. So everything needs to be thought out and studied for secondary and tertiary impacts. Keep the suggestions coming though.
Q12:
+Mati JZ: Are the post in the portal appeal category subjecto to review before they are published in the community?
A12: We use Google+'s anti-spam and moderation tools for communities. I believe a new poster will automatically have their post held for moderator review. Frequently something about a post will trip the anti-spam measures and be held for review because of that as well. We do try to review these queues regularly and accept or deny posts based on the content.
Q13:
+Gerald Wolf:How strictly are the development-teams for Ingress and Pokemon-GO separated? Have you noticed any synergies from the Pokemon-GO-Team towards the development of Ingress 2.0?
A13:
Since I am not part of the development team I cannot comment on how tightly they are integrated or not. I can say we frequently have meetings where people working on both products are present which does provide a lot of synergy.
Q14:
+Ethern Su:Why NIA OPS deleted the "report an issue of a portal/mission" category in support website?
A14:
We want Portal reports to come via the Scanner. For Missions, we expect the community to reach out to the Author for any changes. If it's an issue with something being inappropriate, use the inappropriate game play form to report the issue.
THANK YOU everyone for your questions. I've run out of time to reply. Do not hesitate to ask the same question next week. If I don't answer you it doesn't mean I'm ignoring you. Now for some lunch!

John Hanke, CEO of Niantic, in an interview about Pokémon Go, answers a question that affects also the playing experience of Ingress. The topic is: cheating and its commercial side
Q: Did you anticipate just how much effort you would have to put toward dealing with cheating? It seems like there’s a new story about it every week.
A: We had some experience with that with Ingress. We knew that location spoofing and people building fake clients to do things would be an issue. I don’t think we anticipated the degree to which people would do that. The success of the game is I think what made it a little bit different from Ingress. Because of the scale [of Pokémon Go], there are actual commercial entities that sprung up that were offering services to level up your account or do various other things, and were real businesses. Therefore they’re able to invest significant resources in these things. We didn’t really anticipate that scale of commercial-funded cheating, which is a challenge to keep the game fair for everyone.

Agents,
Level 12 or above now have access to Operation Portal Recon via http://opr.ingress.com! This will be the last level granted access at this time.
As mentioned in a previous announcement, there will be medals for participation in OPR.
Q: What will the in-game medal be based on?
A: The Ingress medal will be based on the total number of OPR Agreements which will appear in your agent profile. You must also maintain a good or better performance rating in order for your agreements to be counted.
Q: What exactly is an agreement in OPR?
A: An agreement is awarded when a decision has been made and your analysis agrees with the final decision. These agreements are currently shown as Portals Created and Rejected in the OPR stats area by selecting your profile photo.
Q: What are the medal levels?
A:Bronze: 100
Silver: 750
Gold: 2500
Platinum: 5000
Onyx: 10000

ITO EN #Transmuter - How does it work?
The ITO EN Transmuter has introduced a new detail on the mods: the XM spin. The XM spin is visible when controlling the mods, and can be -1, 0 or +1.
-> If it is -1 the portal will transform the hacked items in offensive items
-> If it is 0 the portal will give you the items normally
-> If it is +1 the portal will transform the hacked items in defensive items
Using more than one type of ITO EN on a portal will result in the following situations:
-> Using two ITO EN of the same type will give you the same items as using one (using two (+) will not take the XM spin to +2 but ever to the maximum of +1)
-> Using the same number of each type on the same portal will take the XM spin to 0 like you didn't put any (ex. 1 (+) and 1 (-) means doing +1-1 that is mathematically 0, the same for also 2 of each)
For those who are interested in graphic view, you can see this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w5VW07CrFOA

Q1: +Aaron Breen: How soon can we expect OPR medals to start rolling out?
A1: They should be awarded within the next week or so.
Q2: +Edward Goodeve-Docker: How many outstanding portal submissions are left (or how far through are we)?
A2: I've been told the backlog should be cleared within the next couple of months if everything continues at the same pace.
Q3: +James David Smith: The higher OPR medal levels look unrealistic. Any plans to review them?
A3: Not at this time. They were thoroughly analyzed using all the data points we have at our disposal to set metrics so that it would take about a year on average for most people to obtain Onyx. Fun fact: There is already at least one person with enough agreements to obtain Onyx and several very close behind.
Q4: +Filip Talpa: What's the ETA for August anomalies rules?
A4: The goal is this week. However, the best laid schemes o' mice an' men...
Q5: +Sven W: What's the current status of the second chance programme you annonced recently?
A5: It is currently in legal review to make sure I don't do something wrong or put anyone in a position that would be less than ideal.
Q6: +Jan Sedláček: How is your day, and can I send you a Becherovka as a thank you for the work and the progress in Ingress ?
A6: I don't know what Becherovka but because it has so many vowels in the name I'm sure it is delicious - so sure, send some.
Q7: +Oli Wyllie: Why do birds suddenly appear?
A7: Just like me, they long to be, close to you...
Q8: +Gerald Wolf: What is Niantics stance on (non-profit) fanfiction / swag / Biocards using the Ingress name and/or symbols? Is it OK if explicitly labeled as unofficial?
A8: Any merchandise using the names or logos needs to be licensed. The license may be for free, meaning no payment required, but it still has to be licensed. I'm happy to connect anyone to the folks who handle the licensing for us.
Q9: +Максим Чепурин: Should we expect - that the OPR will be available to players level 8?
A9: I wouldn't expect this any time soon.
Q10: Craig Wallace : How can OPR saved locations get fixed?
A10: File a request via the help center and we'll take care of it.
Q11: +Sven van Steenis: Will portal submissions open again?
A11: Yes.
Q12: +Bernard Sadaka: There are currently a lot of bad title/description edits (especially in local non-english/latin languages) that we can't revert unless we g+ them and that takes a lot of time and effort. Will OPR start reviewing title/description edits?
Q12: I believe the next several phases of OPR will involve being able to edit portals title and descriptions. When? I do not know.
Q13: +Артур Лисс: Does OPR make a distinction between 2, 3, 4 and 5 stars when deciding if an analysis will count towards the badge? If it doesn't (and I suspect it doesn't), there's no reason to submit any number of stars but 1 or 5. Users are incentivized to only submit extreme ratings: if they don't, it lowers their chance of matching the final result.
A13: I would not recommend only submitting extreme ratings.
Q14: +Morpheus: Are agentprofiles erased after a specific time of inactivity?
A14: I believe in the TOS is states after one year. I could be wrong about that though.

A14: I believe in the TOS is states after one year. I could be wrong about that though.

It is Monday - Ask Me Anything ##Ingress related in the comments. In a couple...
#MondayGCM #Day2 #Part2
Q15: +Vijay Raj: Are there any plans to highlight unique portals on scanner or intel?
A15: I hope that we can implement something similar to what Pokémon GO does to highlight portals that have not been visited before.
Q16: +Saskia v L.: I would love to know if the (preferably near) future has any new challenges or special priviliges in store for lvl 16 players other than grinding for almost impossible black medals?
A16: I think once we determine that Ingress 2.0 is stable and the current functionality in Ingress 1.0 works in Ingress 2.0 we'll start to add new features and challenges. We have to be careful not to upset the game mechanics, economy, or player experience. So simply adding L16 bursters for example may not be a good idea. We have to study these things and their impact. But we understand the need for veteran players.
Q17: +Celso González: Can you confirm that votes from both factions are needed to accept/reject a portal on OPR?
A17: The review system has a lot of inputs and some are dynamically weighted. I'd avoid trying to rig the system because it will be obvious and abuse will likely result in loss of access or your actions will simply carry no weight.
Q18: +Sergey Blood: What can you say about Ukrainian agents?
A18: They make some of the best field art.
Q19: +Arnaud - Gustaf Valentine If you didn't have to worry about money, a job or portals, where would you live in the world ? And why ?
A19: Great question... I would spend my Winters in Hawaii. My summers in Germany. My Fall in Australia and Spring would be wherever the dart landed on a map.
Q20: +Dean N: Name 3 current employees (not contractors) from Niantic that are active Resisitance.
A20: I could easily name more than three. In fact, I had three names written down when I first started to answer this question. But I'm not going to name them because I understand the secondary context of this question. That is, the perception that there are no RES at Niantic. The truth is, I think I know more RES employees than ENL employees. Naming them would put an unfair spotlight on my colleagues. Unfair because I could very easily see them getting swamped with incoming messages and it isn't their job to interface and interact with the player community. So I can't in good conscious name. It's pretty close to 50/50 in the office though.
Q21: +Stenli Goodspeed: The question Second. I passed the test and training on the OPR site - July 13 ... Three locations were chosen (1 Moscow, 2 Kursk, 3 Nikolaev - 1 and 2 in Russia, 3 in Ukraine). From July 13 on the OPR site - I have not received any requests for consideration of the portal at all (0-0-0 my statistics in OPR)...- is there any way that will change this sad situation?
A21: There is a fix for this coming.
Q22: +diane wilson: How many points did you get at operation clear field?
A22: 67 points
Q23: +Brian Peterson: What is your Monday Morning AMA coffee regimen? Purchased/pre-made, fresh ground, pre-ground, K-cups, Sanka? What roast? Cream? Sugar? Flavoring? Bacon chaser?
A23: I never pigeon hole myself into just one thing. It really varies on my mood, available time, and location. There are awesome local roasters near my house. But I don't always have the time to go out so in that case I default to what I have on hand which maybe fresh ground or K-cups. Drip coffee I like to drink black. But my go to is a Flat White (no added sugar or anything).
