PAC has been able to gain access to some info regarding "Anomalous Zones", powerful variances within the Portal Network that can occasionally "erupt" with a number of real world consequences. Anomalous Zones can also impact the surrounding Portal Network in a number of ways, including the appearance of what are known as "Volatile Portals". The evidence thus far indicates that Anomalous Zones cycle through periods of activity and inactivity. The cause remains unknown.

Akira Tsukasa, the prominent Japanese XM researcher behind groundbreaking projects like the Lawson Power Cube and NL-PRIME, has something new up her sleeve.

This time, Akira has her sights on figuring out what defines the brightest and best Agents and Operatives, and how these achievers perform under pressure.

She has created a series of physical, mental and collaborative challenges to put a group of outstanding Ingress Agents to the test in a truly unique arena.

Agents, can you outperform her expectations?

This event will be held Saturday, June 24th, 2017. Agents will gather in Tokyo, Japan and the event will be broadcast live in English & Japanese via live-streaming from Niconico.

Akira is seeking 50 outstanding Agents (25 per faction) to challenge her expectations. In order to contend:

- You must submit a video audition to prove that you are a truly outstanding Agent – an ideal candidate for this project – and ready to take on a challenge like no other.
- You must a Level 13 or higher Ingress Agent.
- You must be in good health and able to endure rigorous physical challenges.
- You must be above the age of 18 on the Friday, June 23rd, 2017.

Here are some guidelines for your video:

- The video must be 30 seconds or less.
- Clearly state your Agent name, your Faction, and showcase why you are an outstanding Ingress Agent

Earlier this year, and as recent as last weekend, a rogue actor caused damage to a large network of Portals across New Zealand. Last week, and during the last 24 hours, we reset a number of these Portals to mitigate this damage. This operation was conducted with the support of trusted local resources across this region, and we are grateful for the help of these volunteer Agents.

NIA Gamemasters will continue to strive for fair play across the Portal Network, and whenever possible, in cases deemed appropriate, will take action to help preserve the integrity of Ingress and its Agent communities.

Starting today, Operation Portal Recon (OPR) will now be available globally to any level 16 Agent!! The portal network has grown from those who helped calibrate Operation Portal Recon over the last several months. We will be monitoring what effects that new Agents evaluating Portal candidates will have on the Portal Network. In time, additional Agents will gain access to OPR when we have determined that Portal Network is not affected adversely. To access the system, go to https://opr.ingress.com/.

We want to thank all of the passionate Agents who helped us test the system and perfect the algorithms. Together, these Agents reviewed 510,000 portals, rejected 67,000, and were responsible for 63,000 new portals being created. To show our thanks, we are going to send a special Operation Portal Recon T-shirt to the top 100 contributors. We will send an email notice to the winning agents.

In addition, there will be a new in game medal that can be obtained by participating in Operation Portal Recon. It will be a tiered medal and will not affect leveling up. More details will be announced soon about this.

- Agents will gather in Tokyo and transported to an arena where they will compete in a closed environment.
- This is both a cross-factional and competitive event, but you will also compete against your own faction. Competitions will be Resistance vs. Enlightened, Resistance vs. Resistance, and Enlightened vs. Enlightened.
- Your power leveling skills and ability to work as a team will be tested.

From 16 MAY to 22 MAY, it is predicted that all Portals in the Lawson sub-network will be subjected to a new and sophisticated XM amplifier and will begin to display a special Lawson beacon above it — however this beacon will also have the effect of doubling all hack outputs, similar to a Portal Fracker. Each Portal in the Lawson sub-network will be able to produce double the output for up to 630 hacks per day — after which it will revert to normal Portal behavior and the beacon will be removed. Checkout operatives at Lawson stores will also be offering the opportunity to win Ingress themed items by purchasing ITO EN and other products in store.

Agents, your help is needed in testing this new XM amplifier. All hacks made on Lawson Portals during the test window above will be measured by Faction — as well as the number of Portals that have been hacked to the research limit of 630 per day.

Based on the number of times Lawson Portals are hacked up to the research limit during this test period, Lawson Powercubes may experience an increased amount worldwide during the week following the test. The scale of increase will vary based on below 2 conditions:

Challenge 1: if 63 Lawson Portals are hacked to the research limit
Challenge 2: 4x if minimum of 1 Lawson Portal is hacked to the research limit, with a minimum of 1 in each prefecture; or to 8x if 630 Lawson Portals are hacked to the research limit, with a minimum of 1 in each prefecture.

In addition, the Faction with the greatest number of Lawson hacks during the course of the research test will be rewarded by having their Faction beacon displayed above every Lawson Portal during the week following the test.
