India’s Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor (PFBR) at Kalpakkam has reached a significant milestone with the commencement of “Core Loading” in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 4, 20241. This event marks India’s entry into the second stage of its three-stage nuclear program. The PFBR, designed and constructed indigenously by Bharatiya Nabhikiya Vidyut Nigam Limited (BHAVINI), is a 500 MWe reactor that will use Uranium-Plutonium Mixed Oxide (MOX) fuel initially1.
The reactor’s design allows for the use of a Uranium-238 “blanket” to produce more fuel, hence its classification as a ‘breeder’ reactor. There are also plans to use Thorium-232 as a blanket, which through transmutation, will create fissile Uranium-233 for use in the third stage of India’s nuclear program1. This advancement is a stepping stone towards the full utilization of India’s abundant thorium reserves and is significant for the country’s long-term energy security2.
The PFBR is noted for its advanced third-generation design with inherent passive safety features, ensuring a prompt and safe shutdown in emergencies. It also offers advantages in terms of waste reduction, as it uses spent fuel from the first stage, reducing the need for large geological disposal facilities1. Upon completion of core loading, the reactor will approach criticality, leading to subsequent power generation1. This development is a testament to India’s commitment to achieving energy security and sustainable development through nuclear energy.

आप लोगों को मैं एक केस बताना चाहता हूं। मेरे सामने ही ऐसे दो घटनाक्रम आए।
दो लोगों के व्हाट्सएप पर फोन आया और फोन करने वाले ने अपने आप को पुलिस का इंस्पेक्टर या सीओ इस तरीके से बताया और उनके बच्चे के बारे में जानकारी कंफर्म कर रहा था। हालांकि उसे खुद नहीं पता था।
वह मेरे बगल ही बैठे थे बोले कि भैया देखो यह क्या आया?
मैंने बोला कि फोन कट करो। जब उसका नंबर लेकर के ट्रूकॉलर पर चेक किया , तो पता चला कि नंबर लोकेशन पाकिस्तान, नाइजीरिया का था और उसके व्हाट्सएप डीपी पर पुलिस छपा हुआ था ।
पुलिस स्टार दिख रहे थे लेकिन उसका नाम नहीं दिख रहा था। कहां का पुलिस है यह नहीं दिख रहा था।
तो आप लोग सावधान रहे, ऐसा कोई भी फोन आए, कुछ भी जानकारी मांगे, आप कुछ भी मत बताइए।
