Overnight, Israeli troops were ordered to withdraw from the strategic Netzarim Corridor that divides the Gaza Strip between north and south. Until now, the government has repeatedly stressed that it will never do this until Hamas is destroyed.

Why is the division of the Gaza Strip into two halves important?

Control of the corridor allows the IDF to better control the different parts of the Gaza Strip. This limits Hamas’s freedom of movement and makes it more difficult for the terrorists to transfer forces, supplies, and possibly hostages.

Isolation of Gaza City

Control of the corridor makes it possible to cut off Gaza City, which was Hamas's main power center in the north, from the center and south parts of Strip, from where all the smuggled arms and supplies enter.

Many see it as a strategic mistake to give up all this.

In return for yesterday's released hostages, Israel freed 183 jailed Palestinian terrorists, including 18 serving life sentences.

One of those "lifers" who was released to the Gaza Strip was immediately handed a gun, which he fired in the air before publicly threatening to kill the first Israeli he sees.

Almog was just 1-year-old when his mother, Einav, was murdered and his father taken hostage to the Gaza Strip.

Today, Almog is 3. His mother is gone, and he is essentially meeting his father for the first time.

"Take them down one-by-one"

Shir Siegel, daughter of Keith Siegel, one of the Israeli hostages released from Hamas captivity last week, wrote today on social media:

"Yesterday, before I went to sleep, my dad spent hours telling us horror stories.

"The feeling I had in my body was so strong that it made me want to drive all the way to Gaza and take them down one by one.

"And then came the frustration of knowing that I'm unable to actually do that. What I can do is direct my complaints to my leadersβ€”because Hamas doesn’t care about me."

These are the 17 hostages still to be released in phase 1 of the Gaza ceasefire deal.

Eight of them are dead. We aren’t sure which ones. Hamas won’t tell us.

IDF Spokesman:

A short while ago, IAF aircraft conducted a precise intelligence-based strike on a tunnel crossing from Syrian territory into Lebanese territory that was used by Hezbollah to smuggle weapons. The IDF is determined to prevent the restoration and use of this tunnel.

Additionally, the IAF struck several Hezbollah sites in Lebanese territory containing munitions and rocket launchers that posed an imminent threat.

The targets struck were a violation of the understandings between Israel and Lebanon.

LOOMING CRISIS❓

Senior Egyptian officials warned Israeli officials that any violation of the Camp David Accords would be met with appropriate retaliation – even at the cost of the complete termination of the peace agreement.

Egypt says that Israeli control of the Gaza-Egypt border (Philadelphi Corridor) is a violation of Camp David.

In recent weeks, Egyptian forces have been massing in Sinai in their own apparent violation of that peace agreement.

Arab media reports that Cairo demands the IDF leave the Philadelphi Corridor.

In Israel, controlling that border is seen as a strategic necessity. It is the lifeline of Hamas, which smuggled all its weapons through the Philadelphi Corridor, with little or no interference by the Egyptians.

Famine in Gaza?

Photos from the last few days show markets full of bread, vegetables, fruit, kebabs and even shoes. Prices have dropped, but Palestinians are still afraid because of the sudden reappearance of armed Hamas terrorists on the streets.
