Shaykh Zahid al-Kawthari raḥimahullah (d.1371 AH/1952 CE) referring to Shaykh Shabbir Ahmad Uthmani raḥimahullah (d.1368 AH/1949 CE) as kind of the most knowledgeable scholar of hadith in India during his time. [Ta'nib al-Khatib, pg.298] I should add that…
May Allah Ta'ala bless a dear scholar who has rightly pointed out that this footnote is by Ahmad al-Khayri (d.1387 AH), the famous student of Shaykh Zahid al-Kawthari and not Al-Kawthari himself. My mind went to Al-Kawthari for some strange reason despite knowing that his footnotes have the letter ز at their end, not خ.

Register here:
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1Wcy6Hkn1yV_gEmuUOnZDH6OYYL7CWnjNsXM_VYbLV_k/
⌛️ Course duration: Four months
🗓 Start date: 6th November 2024
🕰 Timings: Every Wednesday 6 to 6:45pm UK (recordings will be available for those who cannot join live sessions)
Languages: English explanations from Arabic poetry.
🎓 Course Instructor:
Qārī Mouhammad Dodakia Moosa, director of Al Utruj Academy. By the grace of Allah Taʿālā, he was able to take benefits from many Shuyūkh around the globe (Egypt, India, Pakistan, Syria, Madinah & Yemen) and gathers multiple Ijāzāt (valid licenses) in the Qirā'āt (the 10 Qirā'āt and the 4 additional as well) and books. He is currently teaching several classes of different level on site and also runs some classes online.
📜 Course Outline
The purpose of this course is to study the theory of Tajweed from a very unique and renown book: Tuḥfah al-Aṭfāl. Used as an entry level (and part of the curriculum) before studying the famous Al-Muqaddimah al-Jazariyyah in the Arab world, it is composed by a total of only 61 poetry lines to memorise and master its explanations. Without a doubt, this book is the best entry to the field of Qirā'ah & Tajweed and is passed on up to this day with a continuous preserved chain to the author, Al-Jamzūrī (RA). The chapters will be as follow:
1. Introduction to the importance of Tajweed & the value of this book
2. Rules of Nūn Sākin
3. Rules of Nūn and Mīm Mushaddadah
4. Rules of Mīm Sākin
5. The rules of ال of nouns and verbs
6. Mithlayn, Mutaqāribayn & Mutajānisayn
7. Rules of Madd with additional explanations (durations, what is commonly found and not)
8. Types of Madd Lāzim
9. The closing chapter
10. Additional selected rules (Qalqalah, rules of Rā)
11. Talk and explanation of the Ijāzah (for those concerned)
Note: A certificate of participation to the course will be given to those who are not applying for the Ijāzah Special arrangements will be made for sisters willing to participate in this course and are applying to get the Ijāzah. Ijāzah refers to the valid licence of teaching the book. It also includes the multiple high Asāneed (chain of transmitters) to the Author
Course Style
This course will involve a reading of each line, a translation and explanation. Arabic knowledge is a requirement. There is a possibility to obtain Ijāzah (Valid license) of the book by reciting it by heart in one sitting. After the course’s completion, every student willing to obtain the Ijāzah will be given the opportunity to recite the book with the teacher (please email for more informations). In addition, minimum of an exam will take place and grades will be given accordingly.
Long term plan
The objective is to be able to recite the holy Qur’an in the best manner possible in the way it was preserved and passed to us from our teachers, going up to the Prophet (Pbuh). To recite a narration of the holy Qur’an correctly is necessary. Therefore, the aim is to be able to enrol for the complete Ḥafs course (approximately one year course) that would include the following:
1) The study of Tuḥfah al-Aṭfāl, Al-Jazariyyah & a complementary English book such as Rawḍah al-Tajweed
2) The complete recital of the holy Qur’an in the Ḥafs narration.
Note: On the completion of this Ḥafs course, the student will receive the different Ijāzāt of books and a separate Sanad & Ijāzah for the narration of Imām Ḥafs (RA).
💻 Online Platform: ZOOM
Course fee: £50 for the full course (payment taken closer to the start date)
✅ FOR THOSE UNABLE TO ATTEND LIVE, ALL RECORDINGS AND DOCUMENTS WILL BE PROVIDED ON TELEGRAM AS WELL AS YOUR ONLINE PORTAL

The Mughal Empire and The Ottoman Empire
Two empires that are extremely important for the Hanafi Madhhab. Especially when we consider Al-Majallah and Al-Fatawa al-Hindiyyah. I really like Anne Davison's books for beginners as they're very concise - hardly a 100 pages and give a decent overview of the history.
Regarding Islamic history itself, we have some very exciting news soon insha'Allah!

Ottoman Hanafi Intellectual History
Half way into two fascinating books. First is Guy Burak's "The Second Formation of Islamic Law". The early chapters speak of Ibn Kamal Pasha's Tabqat, then Ibn al-Hinai's, then Adarnawi's Maham al-Fuqaha. Although the author might be reading too much into certain aspects, it's a very interesting read.
Second is Samy Ayoub's "Law, Empire and The Sultan", a fascinating book to learn more about the "The father of late Hanafism" Ibn Nujaym (d.970 AH), The Majallah (Mecelle) and Ibn Abidin (d.1252 AH)
Two incredible books on Hanafi intellectual history.
