Alḥamdulillah, I started my lesson with the Iftaa students this year by mentioning something I try to mention to the Iftaa students every year, “I don’t like you agreeing with me. We will only grow and develop if you don’t accept everything I say as automatically true.”

As much as possible, surround yourself with Ulama who disagree with you - with respect of course, and you will grow.

Shaykh Zahid al-Kawthari raḥimahullah (d.1371 AH/1952 CE) referring to Shaykh Shabbir Ahmad Uthmani raḥimahullah (d.1368 AH/1949 CE) as kind of the most knowledgeable scholar of hadith in India during his time.

[Ta'nib al-Khatib, pg.298]

I should add that I'm not too keen on generic labels like this, but it does show the calibre of Shaykh Shabbir Ahmad Uthmani raḥimahullah (d.1368 AH/1949 CE).

Shaykh Zahid also has an article in his Maqalat on Fathul Mulhim Sharh Sahih Muslim by Shabbir Ahmad Uthmani raḥimahullah (d.1368 AH/1949 CE).

Alhamdulillah I've had a successful small procedure (hernia repair) in the hospital and my recovery is going Alhamdulillah well. Something I read before the surgery was the hizb of Imam al-Nawawi rahimahullah (d.676 AH). This was a gift given to me by dear brother Kamran Aslam in Chicago.

I am embarassed to say that I had not heard of the hizb of Imam al-Nawawi before this. Alhamdulillah it is short and beneficial, and I can honestly feel the blessings of it. The hizb has been translated and commentated upon by Shaykh Umar Faruq Abdullah.

I request your Du'as for a continued safe and speedy recovery.

May Allah Ta'ala bless a dear scholar who has rightly pointed out that this footnote is by Ahmad al-Khayri (d.1387 AH), the famous student of Shaykh Zahid al-Kawthari and not Al-Kawthari himself. My mind went to Al-Kawthari for some strange reason despite knowing that his footnotes have the letter ز at their end, not خ.
