Meeting the Mashāyikh of Your City/Country

As we come to the end of the academic year, I remember sitting in 2016 right close to Mufti Ebrahim Desai raḥimahullah's desk after - I believe - Maghrib Salah (الشك من الراوي) around the end of the academic year, and him telling me that after he completed his Iftaa studies in India, he did not want to come home.

Eventually his teacher and Shaykh, Muftī Maḥmood Ḥasan Gangohi raḥimahullah convinced him to come home. But before that, Mufti Sahib told me that he travelled a decent part around India and went to meet all the senior scholars to get their Du'as that Allah Ta'ala accepts him for the service of His Deen and keeps him steadfast.

This is an ideal practice after graduation; after graduating, spend one or two days touring your country - as per your capability of course - and go and meet every senior scholar and get their Du'as. Their company alone can change lives, not to mention their Du'as.

Ulama-e-Salaf Ka Shawq-e-Ilm by Maulana Mihammad Nu'man

Coincidences are incredible. I was reading the book below in preparation for some lectures in the USA next week. As I read the introduction, it was written by Maulana Ayyub Surti Sb who first came across this book - written by Maulana Muhammad Nu'man - in Chicago in the immense library of Mufti Abdus Sattar Sb.

Mufti Abdus Sattar Sb from Chicago then told Ml Ayyub the background behind this book. He told Ml Ayyub that when he presented this book to Maulana Abdullah Kapodrawi, he - despite his age & health - read 150 pages from it in one night. He then said that every student and teacher should read it.

Ml Kapodrawi wanted to make a special effort to get it into every Madrasah. Fast forward many years later in a library in Chicago, Mufti Abdus Sattar asked Ml Ayyub if he could assist in printing this book as per the wish of Ml Abdullah Kapodrawi...and so...Ml Ayyub Surti printed the book and so...

As I prepare for a trip to Chicago insha'Allah next week, with the hope of meeting Mufti Abdus Sattar Sb, I find myself reading the very book that he played a role in printing!

Urdu books get some bad rep for lacking references, this book is fully referenced Masha'Allah!

Let us be honest with ourselves, did we really understand the transaction chapters from Al-Hidāyah properly? Whether you did or didn’t, this course is for you! We’re exploring the original text of Al-Hidāyah - Bidāyah al-Mubtadī - written by Al-Marghīnānī raḥimahullah (d.593 AH) and going through every chapter from Kitāb Buyūʿ until Kitāb al-Karāhiyah.

We’ll be looking deep into the legal meanings of the masā’il and drawing the dots to connect the masā’il with contemporary issues such as cryptocurrency, pensions, forex and studying industry practice today. This course is an ABSOLUTE MUST for a student of fiqh and really delves into an area that is, quite often, not given as much coverage in our darse-niẓāmī programmes.

Visit to Darus Salam, Darul Qasim and Islamic Institute of Education (IIE)

Alhamdulillah, it was an honour and pleasure to visit Darus Salam, Darul Qasim and Islamic Institute of Education in Chicago. We had the absolute incredible opportunity of meeting Maulana Abdullah Saleem Sb in Chicago, a student of Hazrat Maulana Husain Ahmad Madani raḥimahullah, Fakhr al-Din Muradabadi rahimahullah and Qari Muhammad Tayyab Sb.

Alhamdulillah, he gave lots of Du'as for my book in hadith (An Introduction to the Science of the Noble Hadith Volume 1) and gave us ijazah in hadith after we recited the first hadith of Sahih al-Bukhari.

Maulana Abdullah Saleem Sb related an incredible story of his teacher Hazrat Qari Muhammad Tayyab Sb. When Qari Tayyab Sb was in his final moments, he asked to revise his book Maqamat Muqaddasah one more time. Qari Tayyab Sb asked Ml Aslam to check a book for him, when Ml Aslam bought the back for Qari Sb to add to the book, he saw that Qari Sb had left this world. SubhanAllah! Reminded me of the stories of Imam Abu Yusuf and Imam Zufar in their final moments.
