The landslide occurred on Wednesday night at around 11.45 pm. A part of a hill more than 550 meters high collapsed at the tribal village of Arshal Wadi. Due to which 30-40 huts were buried and the people living in them were trapped. The population of Arshalwadi village is 228. After receiving the information about the landslide, Raigad district administration and teams of police, SDRF, NDRF reached the spot and started a massive rescue operation. The rescue team is facing difficulties due to the huge stones and rocks in the hilly area. Excavation equipment and rescue team are finding it very difficult to reach the spot due to lack of paved road.
Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced in a statement in the Assembly on Friday that a decision has been taken to shift the citizens of the landslide-prone areas of the state to safe places and permanently rehabilitate them. Arshalwadi accident in Raigarh district was discussed in the cabinet meeting on Friday.
Citizens of landslide-prone areas have been instructed to move to safer places.
