Gestern war in der Tagesschau boulevardlike zu lesen:
„Die Ärzte hätten alle Krankenhäuser in fünf Bundesstaaten abtelefoniert, sagt Puget - vergebens. Die Bauchspeicheldrüsenentzündung ihre Sohnes wäre leicht zu behandeln gewesen. Aber nach Stunden ohne den notwendigen Eingriff versagten schließlich die Organe des Mannes. "In jeder Minute, in der er kein Intensivbett bekam, ist er gestorben", sagt seine Mutter.“

Abgesehen davon, dass eine Bauchspeicheldrüsenentzündung trotz Behandlungsmöglichkeiten nicht selten eine lebensbedrohliche Erkrankung und keineswegs leicht zu behandeln ist, suggeriert der Artikel das, was hier zu Lande seit Kurzem versucht wird darzulegen: Ungeimpfte nehmen anderen Patient*innen, die „nicht selbst verschuldet“ in ihre Unglückslage kamen Betten weg. Dass sich die #Tagesschau an der #Spaltung der Gesellschaft so plump beteiligt ist erschütternd.
Aber ist das überhaupt so?
Die #Tagesschau berichtet nur ein Bruchteil dessen, was man aus den USA weiß. Mehr Aufschluss gibt der lesenswerte angehängte Artikel:
„A year and a half into the pandemic, Americans are more confused than ever about the risks they face, and that goes for experts and lay people alike. Cases and hospitalizations are going up in almost every state, but the messages we’re getting are mixed about the risks to the fully vaccinated….
Part of the problem is that numbers can be spun different ways, depending on whether the object is to persuade people to get the vaccine or to persuade the vaccinated to wear masks in public. The other part of the problem is that the data are much more limited than they should be.
That leaves the public with many unanswered questions. Should we wait till we get a third shot before we go back to having social lives? How much will a booster help? Are vaccines wearing off or is it just that they’re not quite as good at protecting people from the delta variant?…
“We now have over one hundred and two thousand hospitalized Americans, and we have no idea what proportion are vaccinated or not vaccinated,” Topol told me….
As a New York Times opinion piece titled “Show Me the Data!” detailed, experts are grappling for answers on Twitter, which doesn’t inspire a lot of confidence. Data are particularly scarce in the contentious area of risk to children, who can’t yet be vaccinated. The U.S. has also failed to do the contact tracing studies that could help identify the activities or venues that pose the greatest risk….
Even if the unvaccinated are 29 times more likely to require hospitalization, that means their odds still look pretty good, with 99.71% not getting hospitalized.“

Die nachlassende Impfbereitschaft in den USA zeigt sich in den Krankenhäusern. Vor allem im Süden sind kaum noch Intensivbetten frei, das Material wird knapp. Und auch die Kinderkrankenhäuser schlagen Alarm. Von F. Hoppen.
