Please note that The Graph’s hosted service will undergo scheduled database maintenance next week, beginning on August 14, 2023, 07:00 UTC.

All subgraphs on The Graph’s hosted service will not be queryable for up to 30-60 minutes. The 30-60 minute downtime will begin within a six-hour time window (07:00-13:00 UTC). This also applies to the developer preview URL of subgraphs created in Subgraph Studio.

The Graph Network does not undergo scheduled maintenance, thanks to 240+ globally distributed independent Indexers. Upgrade to the network today! Learn which chains are available on the decentralized network and how to upgrade your subgraph—avoid downtime caused by routine maintenance. You can also reach out to migration@thegraph.foundation for assistance getting started with The Graph Network.

Millions & millions of terabytes of data are created by people on the internet. Every. Single. Day.

The giants of the legacy web want to control data. The Graph is here to liberate it 🕊️

The Graph’s latest quarterly update just wrapped – let’s dig into how the ecosystem is delivering on the mission to make public data available & accessible to all ⤵️

10 key takeaways from the Q2 2023 Participant Update:

1️⃣ Edge & Node’s new CEO, Tegan Kline, makes it clear: The Graph ecosystem is laser-focused on enabling mass adoption of The Graph Network 🌟 The north star? Upgrade all of the hosted service traffic to the decentralized network 🌅

2️⃣ The Graph ecosystem surpassed over 1 trillion queries this quarter across the hosted service & decentralized network 🥳

3️⃣ Over 1,000 subgraphs have been published on The Graph Network 🤯 That’s a long way since just one subgraph two years ago! More devs than ever are providing fast & reliable user experiences fueled by unstoppable data 💪

4️⃣ The Network continues to serve more data consumers 🌱 At the beginning of the year, 140 unique data consumers were using The Graph to access blockchain data. That number is now up 30% to 190 data consumers 📊 Many are users of multiple subgraphs.

5️⃣ The Migration Infrastructure Providers (MIPs) program concluded with the successful addition of 7 new chains to the network 🎉 Despite a QoQ reduction in Indexers by 29%, total Indexers on the network have increased by 18% since the launch of the program.

6️⃣ Dapp developers are discovering new ways to enhance usage of the network regardless of web3’s industry-wide downturn in activity 💡 Exhibit A: the # of network subgraphs has risen 39%. Network queries may be down 36% QoQ, but dapp participation & active monthly subgraphs are at an all-time high, while devs optimize their query patterns to be more efficient, as detailed by Edge & Node’s Kyle Arojas.

7️⃣ The Graph approaches SaaS-level ease-of-use with billing. 💵 USDC-based subscriptions are enabled in beta to help devs plan & pay for queries, while set-and-forget recurring payments are in the works 🔁.

8️⃣ 225+ subgraphs & 30+ Indexers are already using The Graph on Arbitrum, while L2 transfer tools prepare for release soon to help devs, Delegators, Indexer & Curators alike transfer stake & signal to enjoy lower gas fees + faster txs on the network ⚒️

9️⃣ Substreams & substreams-powered subgraphs are FAST 🔍 CTO Alexandre Bourget of StreamingFast shared that his core dev team built a substream-powered subgraph that sped up Uniswap v3 indexing by 72x 🚀, bringing 2 months of syncing down to 20 hours.

🔟 Keyword: More. The Graph is consuming more data. The Graph is preparing to support more data services beyond subgraphs & GraphQL queries. The Network provides more resiliency & uptime than centralized tech or the hosted service. More use cases are being born. Stay tuned for an updated roadmap from The Graph Foundation – Director Eva Beylin & team are excited for new upcoming initiatives 👀

🌅The Graph Network delivers best in class performance, low query costs, reliable uptime, redundancy and fast syncing speeds.

Now it’s time for everyone to take advantage of the benefits of upgrading to the network!

This announcement unveils an updated plan for the sunrise of decentralized data — enabling everyone to upgrade seamlessly to The Graph Network 🌅

The plan comprises 3 phases:

🌅 Sunray: Enable support for all hosted service chains, introduce an easy upgrade flow, and offer a free query plan on The Graph Network, made possible by the upgrade Indexer

🌅 Sunbeam: Introduction of a 60-day upgrade window to upgrade hosted service subgraphs, with dedicated upgrade support

🌅 Sunrise: Hosted service endpoints will expire as all subgraphs upgrade to The Graph Network

What can you expect from each phase

🌅 Phase 1️⃣: Sunray

This phase includes the launch of three enhancements designed to enable hosted service users to seamlessly and quickly upgrade to The Graph Network.

♦️ Enabling hosted service chains on The Graph Network with the release of the upgrade Indexer. All chains available on the hosted service today will also be available on The Graph Network!

♦️ Providing an easy and rapid upgrade interface. The Sunray phase will introduce an easy-to-use upgrade flow to help hosted service users upgrade subgraphs to The Graph Network and become familiarized with Subgraph Studio, the primary user interface for creating, testing, publishing and deploying subgraphs to the decentralized network.

♦️ Introducing a free query plan. With a free plan, users who need to query any network subgraph will be able to make a generous number of free queries each month. This will be helpful for smaller dapps, hackathons, hobbyists, and users simply testing out subgraphs before committing to a paid plan.

🌅 Phase 2️⃣: Sunbeam

The Sunbeam phase will kick off an upgrade window while offering support for users via email and Discord.

At the beginning of the Sunbeam phase, two major elements will come into play:

♦️ Beginning of the upgrade window. The upgrade window corresponds to the timeframe during which subgraph developers will need to upgrade their subgraphs to The Graph Network before the hosted service no longer serves queries.

While this upgrade window will start at the end of the Sunbeam phase, it will culminate at the end of the third phase: the sunrise. The upgrade window will last a duration of 60 days, and will only begin after the three enhancements of the Sunray phase are completed.

♦️ New subgraph creation will be exclusive to The Graph Network. Developers will sign up for free or paid plans in Subgraph Studio, where they can continue to utilize subgraphs at no or low costs with the upgraded benefits of the decentralized network.

♦️Support. All users are encouraged to reach out to upgrade@thegraph.foundation via email or join the dedicated Discord server, a space curated for real-time assistance and community support directly from experienced team and community members.

At the end of the Sunbeam phase, two additional components will take effect:

♦️ New subgraph updates will be exclusive to The Graph Network. Subgraph developers who wish to make changes to their hosted service subgraphs will need to upgrade their subgraphs for use on the network, in order to update those subgraphs to the Network.

♦️ Auto-upgrade of frequently-used (but not yet upgraded) subgraphs. During the Sunbeam phase, core devs will monitor hosted service subgraphs that are frequently used but have not yet been upgraded.

🌅 Phase 3️⃣: Sunrise

The Sunrise phase will celebrate the completed work for entering the next phase of The Graph, welcoming all hosted service users into a new decentralized era!

At this stage, hosted service endpoints will be retired, marking the beginning of a new purpose for the hosted service in support of the network.
