Pastor Matthew Olson's 96-hour, Genesis-to-Revelation sermon was driven by a desire to highlight the power and importance of God's Word.
The vision came after a missionary training exercise in which he spent 96 hours in the woods without access to a Bible, leaving him with a deep appreciation and longing for Scripture.
According to church leaders, Olson wanted to answer the question: “What would it be like if the Bible was preached for 96 hours uninterrupted from Genesis to Revelation?”
While the marathon sermon ultimately set a Guinness World Record, church leaders stressed that the goal was never publicity or a stunt. Instead, they said the focus was on proclaiming Scripture continuously and trusting that “God’s word will not return unto him void.”
