β€œLet love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good. Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another; Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord; Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer;”

Forgiveness

A man in New Zealand backed out of his driveway when a cat came out of nowhere. He ran over the cat, and the cat died. But what made it even worse is that the cat was owned by the prime minister of New Zealand, who lived nearby.

The man’s two children wrote a condolence card in which they asked the prime minister not to send their father to prison. When he bumped into her in person, he apologized, but she apologized for the inconvenience, and it was one of those, β€œI’m so sorry,” β€œNo, I’m so sorry,” moments.

One could easily have held a grudge.

But forgiveness is always better. God forgives. We want to remember that. Remember to forgive others.

Psalms 86:5
β€œFor thou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive; and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon thee.”

President Wilson’s Father

Woodrow Wilson liked to speak of his godly ministerial father, Dr. Joseph R. Wilson, for many years a distinguished Presbyterian minister in the South.

Among the anecdotes he related of him was this: β€œHe was once in a company of men where they were having a heated discussion. In the midst of it one let out a profane expletive. Then, seeing Dr. Wilson there, he offered him an apology, saying, β€œSir, I had forgotten that you were present. Please pardon me.”

Dr. Wilson’s reply was, β€œIt is not to me that you owe your apology but to God.”

2 Timothy 2:16
β€œBut shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.”

When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory: and before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:

1 John 1, shares the message of life as something real, seen, heard, and experienced firsthand, now proclaimed so others may share in true fellowship with the Father and with His Son. This fellowship is marked by fullness of joy and is rooted in the truth that God is pure light, with no darkness at all. Teaching that walking in that light means living in truth and openness, not claiming closeness with God while continuing in darkness. Honest acknowledgment of sin is essential; denying it is self-deception. But when sin is confessed, God is faithful and just to forgive and to cleanse completely, restoring right relationship.
