Matthew Fontaine Maury
Matthew Fontaine Maury was born in Spotsylvania County, Virginia, in 1806. As an avid Bible reader, he was struck by the reference in Psalm 8 to "the paths of the seas (Ps 8:8)." He also noticed that Isaiah wrote of a "path through the mighty waters (Isa 43:16)." The pursuit of this enigma became Maury's lifetime quest.
He entered the Navy in 1825 as a midshipman. By 1842 he was placed in charge of the Depot of Charts and Instruments, out of which grew the U.S. Naval Observatory and Hydrographic Office. To gather information on maritime winds and currents, Maury distributed to ship captains specially prepared logbooks from which he compiled pilot charts, enabling him to shorten the time of sea voyages. In 1848 he published maps of the main wind fields of the Earth. Maury was ultimately able to produce charts of the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans, a profile of the Atlantic seabed, and the first modern oceanographic text. He is internationally recognized as the "Father of Oceanography," and Maury Hall at the U.S. Naval Academy is named in his honor. All because of a remez, a hint of something deeper, in a verse of the Psalms.

A Casual Christian

The world never burned a casual Christian at the stake.

~John R. Rice
And from His fullness we have all received, grace upon grace.

For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father's side, He has made Him known.

John 1:16-18

Illegal entry into the U.S. hits very close to home for me. When I’m out sharing the Gospel, I also speak about our country and the importance of being informed and patriotic.

My perspective comes from deep personal loss. My young niece was brutally attacked and killed by an illegal years ago. Raped, stripped naked, and left dying in a court yard for all to see, she died alone. She was a very tiny, beautiful, vulnerable young woman whose life was taken far too soon. Not long after, her brother who was my nephew, lost his life as well, unable to bear the weight of that pain.

Because of this, I speak openly. I interact with people from many backgrounds every day, and I’m clear about where I stand. I believe in truth, in having hard conversations, and in standing firm without fear.

At the same time, I remind people that as Americans, we are a nation of many origins, a true melting pot, almost like a β€œUnited Nations.” Most Americans are not pure blood from any country, we're a bunch of mutts! Brought together by the freedom our founding Fathers dreamed of. Yet for too long, we’ve been divided in every possible way: by ethnicity, religion, income, education, politics, and even personal beliefs. Those divisions weaken us.

United we stand, divided we fall. When we allow ourselves to be divided, we become easier to overcome. This nation was built through struggle, sacrifice, and perseverance by people who were forced here or came seeking opportunity, who worked, suffered, and gave their lives to build something greater for future generations. Freedom has never been free, and it has always required responsibility, hard work, and resilience. I will not let that sacrifice be in vain. I will continue to stand for this country, the United States of America, putting God first through Christ, standing firm on truth, and honoring the principles this nation was built upon, the Constitution!

There is a lawful way to enter this country and an unlawful way. We’ve seen, and some have personally experienced the consequences of ignoring that distinction. It’s time to uphold and enforce the proper process.

I am a soldier for Christ but also a proud Veteran who chose to serve out of love for this country. We all must keep praying and fighting for our country.. πŸ‘Š πŸ™

Have a blessed evening! ~Renee

2 Peter 3 reminds God’s people to stay anchored in the words spoken by the prophets and the Lord’s apostles, especially in the last days when mockers will come, denying the promise of His return and following their own desires. It explains that God’s timing is not like human timing, what seems like delay is actually patience, giving people the opportunity to turn back to Him.

The day of the Lord will come suddenly and decisively, bringing judgment and the renewal of creation. Because of this, God’s people are called to live in holiness and reverence, looking forward to a new heaven and new earth where righteousness dwells. We are encouraged to remain steadfastness, grow in grace and knowledge, and be careful not to be led astray by error, urging a firm and faithful walk until the end.
