But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. For if we believe that Yeshua died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Yeshua.
For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. From the beginning, the voice of God has called His people to rise, to listen, and to act. In the Scriptures, whether spoken in Hebrew upon Sinai, in Aramaic upon the hills of Galilee, or in the Greek of the apostolic writings, the message is the same: “He who has ears to hear, let him hear”, Matt. 11:15.
When God calls, it is not an empty sound; it is a summons to life, a commission to act. In the Hebrew prophets, we read, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?”, Isaiah 6:8. The servant of God, trembling yet willing, replied, “Here am I; send me”. This is the pattern of faith: hearing the call, even when it disrupts comfort, and answering with obedience.
The Aramaic word used by Yeshua, qara, “to call, to summon”, is not merely about words but about a stirring deep within. It is the gentle but firm voice that moves the heart toward action, toward compassion, toward service. At times, that call leads us to teach or to pray. At other times, it compels us to act with courage, even to preserve life itself.
The Scriptures remind us that this calling is not random: “For the gifts and the calling of God are without repentance”, Romans 11:29. God does not call in vain. The inward voice, the still small whisper, Kings 19:12, is His Spirit guiding us, urging us not only to believe but also to act.
And yes, sometimes His call challenges us. The disciples left nets, tax booths, and families to follow a Teacher who had no place to lay His head. Abraham left his homeland, not knowing where he was going. Esther risked her life to speak before a king. Each heard the voice within, the divine call, and responded not with hesitation but with trust.
So must we. When the call comes, whether to speak truth, to give, to comfort, or even to physically save a life, we must not harden our hearts. For the Lord who calls is faithful, 1 Thess. 5:24, and His Spirit equips those He summons.
Therefore, beloved, let us answer the call with compassion, courage, and obedience. For in every generation, God speaks, and His people must rise.
