“Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.”

Therefore we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it.

For since the message declared by angels proved to be reliable, and every transgression or disobedience received a just retribution, how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? It was declared at first by the Lord, and it was attested to us by those who heard, while God also bore witness by signs and wonders and various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to His will.

“For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me. And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day. And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.”

In John 16, Jesus speaks to His disciples with tender honesty, preparing them for the trials ahead. He tells them these things “so that you will not be caused to stumble” , verse 1. They will face rejection and persecution, even from those who think they are offering service to God, because such people do not truly know the Father nor the Son Verses 2–3.

Jesus explains that His departure is necessary. “It is to your advantage that I go away” verse 7, because only then will the the Comforter, Advocate come. The Spirit will convict the world concerning sin, righteousness, and judgment.

He promises the Spirit of truth will guide them into “all truth” verse 13, speaking only what He hears from the Father and revealing the things to come. This Spirit will glorify Christ by taking from what is His and making it known to the disciples verses 14–15.

Jesus also speaks of their sorrow turning to joy. Like a woman in labor, their grief will be intense, but the birth of new life will bring unshakable gladness. When He sees them again, no one will take away their joy verses 20–22.

He assures them that in His name they may now ask the Father directly, and they will receive so their joy may be full verse 24.

The chapter closes with a profound promise: “In the world you have tribulation; but take heart, I have overcome the world” verse 33.

John 16 reveals the tender yet unshakable hope Jesus gives: warning of trials, promising the Spirit, and assuring ultimate victory through Him.

John 17

1 These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee:

2 As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.

3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

4 I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.

5 And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.

6 I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word.

7 Now they have known that all things whatsoever thou hast given me are of thee.

8 For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me.

9 I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine.

10 And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them.

11 And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.

12 While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled.

13 And now come I to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves.

14 I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

15 I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil.

16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

18 As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.

19 And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.

20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;

21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.

22 And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:

23 I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.

24 Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.

25 O righteous Father, the world hath not known thee: but I have known thee, and these have known that thou hast sent me.

26 And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.

I once mentioned I was exploring a business opportunity, and now I’m ready to share. I only commit to what I truly believe in. Years ago, I left a well-paying job at MasterCard International because helping people get into debt went against my faith. People thought I was crazy, but God blessed me with something even better.

This new work is different; home-based, with the freedom to travel, a chance to help others, time with my family, and most importantly, a way to glorify God. Like Paul, I believe in working honorably, serving Him, and never taking advantage of anyone.

I’m so excited about this! If you’d like to know more, send me a DM, Renee.

“One thousand shall flee at the rebuke of one; at the rebuke of five shall ye flee: till ye be left as a beacon upon the top of a mountain, and as an ensign on an hill. And therefore will the LORD wait, that he may be gracious unto you, and therefore will he be exalted, that he may have mercy upon you: for the LORD is a God of judgment: blessed are all they that wait for him."
