John the Baptist is introduced as a witness to the Light, not the Light himself, verses 6-8. Though the world was made through the Logos, it did not recognize Him, and His own people did not receive Him, verse 11. But to those who did receive Him, He gave the right to become children of God, born of God rather than of human descent, verse 13.
