Matthew 22 (Continued)
40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
41 While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them,
42 Saying, What think ye of Christ? whose son is he? They say unto him, The son of David.
43 He saith unto them, How then doth David in spirit call him Lord, saying,
44 The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool?
45 If David then call him Lord, how is he his son?
46 And no man was able to answer him a word, neither durst any man from that day forth ask him any more questions.

In Matthew 22, Jesus teaches about the Kingdom of Heaven using a parable. He compares it to a king who prepares a wedding for his son. The king represents God, and the son represents Jesus. The servants sent out to invite people are God’s prophets, but the original guests (the Jews) ignore the invitation or even kill the messengers. The king becomes angry, destroys those murderers, and sends his servants to invite anyone they can find, both good and bad. These new guests represent the Gentiles and others who were not originally invited.
One man comes without a wedding garment, and the king casts him into outer darkness. This shows that even if someone comes to God, they must truly honor Him, not just show up. Jesus ends the parable with, “Many are called, but few are chosen.”
Afterward, the Pharisees try to trap Jesus with tricky questions. They ask about paying taxes to Caesar. Jesus, seeing their wicked intent, answers wisely: “Render to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s.” His answer amazes them, and they walk away.
Then the Sadducees, who don’t believe in resurrection, ask Jesus about marriage after death. Jesus explains that in the resurrection, people will be like angels and won’t marry. He reminds them that God is the God of the living, not the dead.
Later, a Pharisee lawyer asks which commandment is the greatest. Jesus replies: Love God with all your heart, soul, and mind. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. These two commandments are the foundation of all God’s laws.
Finally, Jesus asks the Pharisees a question: If the Messiah is David’s son, why does David call Him “Lord”? They have no answer, and from that day on, no one dares to question Him again.

“For with the heart man believes unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
