In Matthew 13, Jesus went to sit by the sea, and a large crowd gathered. He got into a boat and taught them using parables. He told a story about a sower. Some seeds fell on the path and were eaten by birds, some on rocky ground and withered, some among thorns and were choked, and some on good ground, which grew and produced fruit.
Jesus used parables so that only those truly seeking would understand. He explained the meaning: the seed is God’s word. The different soils represent how people receive it. Only those who hear and understand bear fruit.
He also told about a man who sowed good seed, but an enemy sowed weeds. At harvest, the weeds would be burned, and the wheat gathered. Jesus explained that the good seed are God’s children, the weeds are the wicked, and the harvest will be at the end of this world. Jesus will send the angels to gather all things that offend and those who do iniquity out of His kingdom.
Jesus compared the kingdom to a mustard seed and yeast, showing how it starts small but grows. He said the kingdom is also like a hidden treasure or a pearl worth giving up everything for. He later returned to His hometown, but many didn’t believe, so He did a few miracles there. The disciples, however, understood His teachings.

At the same time, pray also for us, that God may open to us a door for the word, to declare the mystery of Christ, on account of which I am in prison--that I may make it clear, which is how I ought to speak.
