Matthew 27:62-66
Now the next day, that followed the day of the preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees came together unto Pilate, saying, Sir, we remember that that deceiver said, while he was yet alive, After three days I will rise again. command therefore that the sepulchre be made sure until the third day, lest his disciples come by night, and steal him away, and say unto the people, He is risen from the dead: so the last error shall be worse than the first. Pilate said unto them, Ye have a watch: go your way, make it as sure as ye can. So they went, and made the sepulchre sure, sealing the stone, and setting a watch.

The body of Jesus laid in the tomb guarded by Roman soldiers all day on Saturday, which was the Sabbath. When the Sabbath ended at 6 PM, Christ's body was prepared for burial with spices purchased by Nicodemus.
"He brought about 75 pounds of perfumed ointment made from myrrh & aloes. Following Jewish burial custom, they wrapped Jesus' body with the spices in long sheets of linen cloth." John 19:39-40
Nicodemus & Joseph of Arimathea were members of the Sanhedrin, the court that had condemned Jesus Christ to death. Both had been secret followers of Jesus, afraid to make a public profession of faith because of their prominent positions in the Jewish community.
Both were deeply affected by Christ's death. They boldly came out of hiding, risking their reputations & their lives because they had come to realize that Jesus was indeed the long-awaited Messiah. Together they cared for Jesus' body & prepared it for burial.
Matthew 27:62-66, Mark 16:1, Luke 23:56, & John 19:40.

Time of year, people feel the need to post a Christian meme. But the problem is that while it's catchy, and has a powerful image, often it's just not scripturally or historically accurate. Christ's last utterance on the cross was "Tetelestai". Almost every translation says "it is finished", but this is a terrible mistranslation. In Greek, this is actually a term from accounting and archeologists have found this exact phrase in multiple places and on different ancient relics. It was written or stamped in books or records and on parchment and literally means "paid in full". At the exact time the lambs were slaughtered in the temple on Passover, Christ perfectly fulfilled Passover and paid our debt in full with his blood. Make a note in the margin of your Bible. Tetelestai = Paid in Full.
