This is the most meaningful time in history for all who follow Christ and honor God. As we remember Holy Week, we reflect on the suffering, death, and resurrection of Jesus. These events are the foundation of our faith.
It's important to remember that the modern celebration of Easter with its eggs and bunnies, comes from ancient traditions related to Ishtar, a fertility goddess. These symbols and customs were later adopted by pagan cultures and do not represent the true meaning of Christβs sacrifice.
Instead of following man-made traditions, let us return to what Scripture teaches. God's people were commanded to remember the Passover in Exodus 12, and the New Testament gives a clear account of Jesus' death (the true Passover Lamb of God) and His resurrection in Matthew 26β27, Mark 14β15, Luke 22β23, and John 19β20.
In this sacred time, let us honor the one true God and the Lamb who was slain for our sins. As so many come together this weekend, may we remember with reverence the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.

Matthew 27:62-66
Now the next day, that followed the day of the preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees came together unto Pilate, saying, Sir, we remember that that deceiver said, while he was yet alive, After three days I will rise again. command therefore that the sepulchre be made sure until the third day, lest his disciples come by night, and steal him away, and say unto the people, He is risen from the dead: so the last error shall be worse than the first. Pilate said unto them, Ye have a watch: go your way, make it as sure as ye can. So they went, and made the sepulchre sure, sealing the stone, and setting a watch.

The body of Jesus laid in the tomb guarded by Roman soldiers all day on Saturday, which was the Sabbath. When the Sabbath ended at 6 PM, Christ's body was prepared for burial with spices purchased by Nicodemus.
"He brought about 75 pounds of perfumed ointment made from myrrh & aloes. Following Jewish burial custom, they wrapped Jesus' body with the spices in long sheets of linen cloth." John 19:39-40
Nicodemus & Joseph of Arimathea were members of the Sanhedrin, the court that had condemned Jesus Christ to death. Both had been secret followers of Jesus, afraid to make a public profession of faith because of their prominent positions in the Jewish community.
Both were deeply affected by Christ's death. They boldly came out of hiding, risking their reputations & their lives because they had come to realize that Jesus was indeed the long-awaited Messiah. Together they cared for Jesus' body & prepared it for burial.
Matthew 27:62-66, Mark 16:1, Luke 23:56, & John 19:40.
