On the eve of Palm Sunday and the start of Holy Week, extremists in Syria are once again targeting Christians. ๐ธ๐พ
This afternoon, tribal forces and terrorist sympathisers (mainly from the city of Qalaat al-Mudiq) launched a campaign of looting against Christian-owned property in the locality of Suqaylabiyah, in the governorate of Hama, as well as against civilians of that faith.
The security forces once again acted ambiguously: firing into the air to disperse the attackers on the one hand, whilst guiding and protecting them as they raided and destroyed property on the other.
This forms part of the systematic violence that the Syrian Transitional Government either approves of or condones, against Syrian minorities with the aim of sowing terror amongst them.
In Damascus, the Christian community gathered in front of the Orthodox Patriarchate in Damascus to condemn the attack on Hama.

๐จ๐ณ๐ฏ๐ต China Rejects Japan's Apology Over Embassy Break-In
China's Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said on March 27 that Japan's expression of regret over the embassy break-in was insufficient. Lin called on Japan to conduct a thorough investigation and provide a responsible explanation to China.
The incident occurred on March 24, when a knife-wielding Japanese military officer entered the Chinese embassy in Tokyo. Japan's chief government spokesman Minoru Kihara described the incident as regrettable and said the government would take measures to prevent recurrence.
Japan's Defence Minister Shinjiro Koizumi also called the incident truly regrettable and said his ministry was fully cooperating with the ongoing police investigation. Sino-Japanese relations had already deteriorated since November, when Japan's prime minister stated that Japan could deploy its military if a Chinese move against Taiwan also threatened Japanese territory.

๐จ๐บ Cuba Patients Dying Under US Oil Blockade
Cuban doctors say the US oil blockade imposed by the Trump administration has collapsed basic medical care on the island. Power outages are disrupting hospitals, refrigerated medications, and surgical equipment. Cuba and the US are reportedly engaged in bilateral talks amid the pressure campaign.
The blockade is accelerating humanitarian collapse without producing any measurable political transition. The Cuban Communist Party has survived every form of US economic pressure for over six decades by controlling internal repression and information. Ordinary Cubans โ patients in hospitals, not apparatchiks โ absorb the cost while the regime negotiates from a position of controlled suffering. The question of who actually benefits from this strategy deserves a serious answer that the administration has not provided. Pressure without a realistic endgame is not policy. It is punishment of a civilian population.

๐ต๐ฆ China Detaining Panama-Flagged Ships in Port Dispute
The US Federal Maritime Commission said Thursday it is monitoring a surge in Chinese detentions of Panama-flagged vessels, linked to a Panamanian court ruling against Hong Kong-based CK Hutchison over port control rights. The dispute involves strategic ports at both ends of the Panama Canal.
This is the Panama Canal infrastructure fight playing out in real time at Chinese ports. CK Hutchison's canal-adjacent terminal holdings became a flashpoint after the Trump administration pressured Panama over Chinese influence โ and now Beijing is responding by squeezing Panama-flagged shipping. The canal is not just a trade route. It is a drug and migrant smuggling corridor and a strategic chokepoint. Any instability in its governance creates operational opportunities that trafficking networks will exploit. Washington opened this front. It does not appear to have a plan for managing the consequences.

๐จ๐บ Two Mexican Aid Boats Disappear Near Cuba
Mexico's navy reported Thursday that two boats carrying humanitarian aid bound for Cuba have gone missing. No further details on crew numbers, cargo specifics, or last known coordinates were immediately released. The disappearance occurs amid the US oil blockade and ongoing US-Cuba bilateral talks.
The Caribbean between Mexico's Yucatan coast and Cuba is not a benign maritime corridor. It runs through waters active with smuggling operations โ narcotics moving north, cash and weapons moving south โ and the same chokepoints used by humanitarian boats are used by trafficking networks. Two vessels going dark in that stretch warrants serious scrutiny beyond the official humanitarian framing. Whether this is weather, trafficking interdiction, or something else entirely, the Mexican navy's vague statement raises more questions than it answers. The timing, during an active geopolitical pressure campaign on Cuba, makes silence worse.
