🇺🇸 DHS Funding Deal Clears Senate After 40-Day Shutdown

The Senate reached an agreement to fund most of the Department of Homeland Security, ending a partial government shutdown that lasted 41 days. During the closure, TSA officers went unpaid, with roughly 11% calling out daily. Airport wait times reached historic highs. Trump praised ICE performance while the rest of DHS deteriorated.

DHS ran a 41-day operational degradation while the administration publicly celebrated ICE arrest numbers. TSA officers were sleeping in cars and selling plasma. Border enforcement infrastructure — technology systems, port of entry staffing, intelligence coordination — does not pause because Congress failed its budget. The fact that Trump blamed Democrats while his own party controls both chambers is a deflection that should not survive basic scrutiny. A department that cannot pay its screeners cannot secure its borders. That happened on this administration's watch.

The Iran War Is Accelerating Consumer Adoption of Electrification Technology

With gasoline prices elevated across major consuming nations and supply uncertainty showing no near-term resolution, consumer demand signals for electric vehicles, rooftop solar, heat pumps, and induction cooking are strengthening measurably. Analysts and retailers in Europe and North America are reporting accelerated inquiry and purchase rates for electrification products, driven not by climate conviction but by direct cost calculation.

This is a pattern with historical precedent. The 1973 and 1979 oil shocks durably altered consumer behavior and accelerated investment in efficiency and alternatives. The difference in 2026 is that the technology stack — EVs, residential solar, heat pumps — is commercially mature and cost-competitive in a way it was not in prior shock cycles. The cost of solar panels has fallen more than 90% over the past decade. Entry-level EVs in several markets are now cheaper to run than equivalent internal combustion vehicles even before fuel price spikes.

If the Iran war sustains elevated energy prices through 2026, it may paradoxically deliver a faster structural demand shift away from oil than any policy-driven transition scenario had projected.

🇨🇳 PLA Robot Wolves Gain Swarm Combat Capability

China's state broadcaster CCTV aired a documentary series episode showing the PLA's canine robots operating as coordinated wolf pack units with a shared sensing network that enables autonomous collaboration and joint decision-making. The pack integrates with drones for combined air-ground operations in urban clearing scenarios.

The robots are divided into three variants — Shadow for reconnaissance, Bloody for target neutralisation, and Polar for logistical support. The Bloody variant can carry micro-missiles, grenade launchers, and 191 automatic rifles, though human confirmation is still required before any strike is executed.

The same documentary featured the Atlas UAV swarm system, which deploys 96 drones with reconnaissance, jamming, and strike functions under a single operator. CCTV also showed Guangjian laser weapons capable of coordinated drone destruction, and L30 unmanned surface vessels with autonomous route planning and swarm encirclement capabilities.

🇺🇸⛽️ A major explosion and fire at Valero’s Port Arthur refinery has taken one of the largest U.S. refining facilities offline, removing approximately 415,000 barrels per day from supply amid heightened market volatility.

With geopolitical pressures already tightening global energy markets, this outage adds further uncertainty to refined product supply.

On the eve of Palm Sunday and the start of Holy Week, extremists in Syria are once again targeting Christians. 🇸🇾

This afternoon, tribal forces and terrorist sympathisers (mainly from the city of Qalaat al-Mudiq) launched a campaign of looting against Christian-owned property in the locality of Suqaylabiyah, in the governorate of Hama, as well as against civilians of that faith.
The security forces once again acted ambiguously: firing into the air to disperse the attackers on the one hand, whilst guiding and protecting them as they raided and destroyed property on the other.
This forms part of the systematic violence that the Syrian Transitional Government either approves of or condones, against Syrian minorities with the aim of sowing terror amongst them.
In Damascus, the Christian community gathered in front of the Orthodox Patriarchate in Damascus to condemn the attack on Hama.

🇨🇳🇯🇵 China Rejects Japan's Apology Over Embassy Break-In

China's Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said on March 27 that Japan's expression of regret over the embassy break-in was insufficient. Lin called on Japan to conduct a thorough investigation and provide a responsible explanation to China.

The incident occurred on March 24, when a knife-wielding Japanese military officer entered the Chinese embassy in Tokyo. Japan's chief government spokesman Minoru Kihara described the incident as regrettable and said the government would take measures to prevent recurrence.

Japan's Defence Minister Shinjiro Koizumi also called the incident truly regrettable and said his ministry was fully cooperating with the ongoing police investigation. Sino-Japanese relations had already deteriorated since November, when Japan's prime minister stated that Japan could deploy its military if a Chinese move against Taiwan also threatened Japanese territory.
