1. First and foremost, Israel has a great interest in what is happening in Syria. From the conversations I have had in the past few hours with senior IDF officials, it appears that the security establishment is closely following the dramatic events there.

2. The rebels’ attack on Hezbollah and the Iranian militias may serve Israeli interests to some extent. Hezbollah and the militias are busy repelling the attack, not preparing for terrorist acts against Israel.

3. In the city of Aleppo, there is a scientific research center affiliated with the Assad regime, which is used by the Syrian defense industry and produces IMD. The Syrian rebels have already announced that they have taken control of it. Israel must also monitor this carefully – because a significant asset has fallen into the hands of the rebels.
