⚡️⚡️🇺🇸 According to multiple sources, the finalist and official order for the F/A-XX competition, the U.S Navy’s 6th Generation fighter program; will come sometime in August of 2026. Furthermore, The Northrup-Grumman Corporation posted this teaser to their X (Formerly Twitter) account, which you can view here.

The F/A-XX has been in procurement purgatory since the beginning of the Trump Administration, with the larger components of the Dept of Defense / Dept of War trying to outright defund the program in the FY-2025 & FY-2026 National Defense Authorization Acts (NDAA FY-25 & FY-26), however it looks like the Navy’s much needed replacement for the venerable F/A-18E/F Super Hornet may actually come to fruition.

For those whom are curious, a reminder of the semi-finalists are:
• Boeing, with an alleged proposal of a navalized variant of the F-47, the USAF’s F-X 6th Generation fighter winner.
• Northrop Grumman Corp, with a dedicated naval fighter platform, that is allegedly inspired by the YF-23 ‘Black Widow’, one of the two YF-23 prototypes flown by the corporation that lost to Lockheed-Martin’s YF-22 for the Advanced Tactical Fighter program.

The Lockheed-Martin Corporation was dropped as a contender for the F/A-XX Program in March of 2025; with the Dept of the Navy and the Secretary of the Navy claiming that LM had already ‘gotten into the door of the Navy, with the F-35B & F-35C Lightning II’.
