However, this does not mean the base has been abandoned or rendered inactive. Al Udeid has appeared nearly empty during previous periods of the conflict, including when aircraft were dispersed ahead of potential Iranian strikes, while the installation continued supporting U.S. regional operations.

The base hosts CENTCOM’s forward headquarters and the Combined Air Operations Center, which leads U.S. and coalition air operations across the region. Thousands of service members and significant command, communications. Infrastructure remains at the base, and operational even when few aircraft are visible outdoors.

To add on, before Iran's 2025 strike on Al Udeid. The U.S. evacuated tankers and C-17s. Al Udeid is still a key command-and-support center in U.S. operations against Iran.
