🥲🤝🇹🇼🇯🇵❌🇨🇳 - The Philippines President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. says the Philippines "do not have a choice" but to be involved in a future Taiwan conflict, in an interview with Japanese media.

In the Philippines, we do not have a choice because Taiwan is so close to the Philippines and we have almost 200,000 Filipino nationals living and working in Taiwan.

The interview came ahead of Mr Marcos visit to Tokyo next week to discuss defense cooperation.

The Philippines stance on the Taiwan issue remains largely consistent under staunch American ally Marcos. An impeachment trial is underway for the Beijing-friendly opposition figure Sara Duterte, a 2028 presidential hopeful.

Manila is under immense pressure from the Hormuz energy blockade.

❗️🇺🇸 - Heading for the midterm election with a historically unpopular President, the Republicans are looking to retain the House by redistricting.

The Republican gerrymandering is expected to yield up to 15 extra seats, with 2 more pending in Louisiana and South Carolina.

The Democrats managed to eke out only 6 seats in their counter-gerrymandering push. The latest blow for the Democrats came as the Supreme Court of the state of Virginia struck down their redistricting attempt which could have resulted in 4 additional seats.

Net gerrymandering would theoretically give the GOP at least a 9-seat advantage in a 435-seat House of Representatives. Republicans are currently holding an ineffective majority in the House, with their thin margin exacerbated by numerous dissenters.

🇶🇦🇮🇷🇺🇸- Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed al-Ansari reaffirmed Doha's full support for Pakistan's mediation efforts between the US and Iran, describing them as serious and deserving of more time.

➡️ He called for the immediate restoration of freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, stating its closure violates international law and that no country, including Iran, has the right to obstruct it.

➡️ Al-Ansari stated that the recent passage of two Qatari gas carriers through the strait does not signal a return to normal navigation and stressed that Qatar's priority is a permanent resolution to the crisis rather than a temporary truce.
