🇺🇸❌🇮🇷 — WSJ reports that Iran fired two missiles toward Diego Garcia, none of the missiles hit the base.

One missile failed mid-course, the other one was intercepted by an SM-3 interceptor. An SM-3 costs well over $20 million and the US can only produce approximately 70 interceptors of this variant a year.

The distance between Iran and Diego Garcia is almost 4000km. The strike revealed Iran has missiles of much longer reach than previously thought. Iranian Foreign Minister last month claimed in an interview Iranian missile range was limited to 2000km.

The announcement represented a major rhetorical shift, with Keir Starmer initially rejected US request to use British bases. The Green, a fast growing opposition party in the UK, is strongly against involvement in the Iran war, calling it illegal.

The US has been using bases inside the UK and Diego Garcia long before the announcement, so this is not a substantive change.

Iranian Foreign Minister, in a yesterday call with his UK counterpart Yvette Cooper, has warned that the authorization would be considered active participation and would warrant military action from Iran.

🇱🇰🤚🇺🇸❌🇮🇷 - Sri Lanka denied US request to land 2 fighter jets at Mattala airport. The South Asian island nation have maintained strict neutrality while playing a positive humanitarian role in the war in Iran.

Earlier in March, Sri Lanka rescued 32 Iranian sailors and recovered the bodies of 84 others following a US torpedo attack on an Iranian naval vessel departing from an international exercise in India. It also provided shelter for another Iranian vessel trapped at sea and evacuated its 208 member crew.
