🇨🇩 🇺🇬 🇷🇼 Two armies accused of backing DR Congo's feared rebels
🔶️ Uganda is backing M23 rebels fighting across its border in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, UN experts say, warning that a rapidly escalating crisis “carried the risk of triggering a wider regional conflict”.
🔶️ In response, Rwanda did not deny the allegation and told the BBC the DR Congo government lacked the political will to resolve the crisis in its mineral-rich east, which has witnessed decades of unrest.
🇿🇦 A regional force from the Southern African Development Community (Sadc) was deployed at the end of last year to help DR Congo's military deal with conflicts in the east.

The initial information published in the Israeli media revealed a state of complete chaos and the fear of Israeli soldiers about engaging in battles with Palestinian fighters inside the towns surrounding Gaza. And the absence of any communication with the central command of the Israeli army.
The Qassam Brigades’ control of the Re’im military base, which is the headquarters of the Gaza Division, caused a breakdown in communication between the field commands and the central command in Tel Aviv.

🔶️ “Following decades of investments across the US military in precision capabilities, the claim that simpler weapons may be the best for the modern battlefield raises larger questions about whether the Army has been putting billions over billions of dollars down the wrong hole.”
🔶️ “Williams himself called precision weapons “essential,” but cautioned that they cannot “supplant the indispensable volume of… unguided cannon fire,” on the battlefield.”
🔶️ “Although Williams did not disclose which precision munitions are experiencing higher failure rates, there have been multiple reports of Russian forces jamming or spoofing munitions that rely on GPS.”
🔶️ “Lessons learned from the Ukraine conflict absolutely have applicability elsewhere. But when the distances get longer, the need for higher-end weapons become unavoidable.”
🔶️ “In an EW environment like Ukraine, this essentially means the military cannot rely on having precision weapons.”
🔶️ “But out here, just like in Europe, you also need another set of equipment and types of munitions that are precision in nature, you know, GMLRS, ATACMS and… long-range precision fires.”
🔶️ “I think that there will be a need for precision guided munitions: I think there will be the need for conventional munitions,” he added. “And just like always in war, you know, you’re gonna have way more of the conventional stuff than you have the precision stuff.”

🇮🇳 ❌️ 🇨🇦 Indian arrested in Canada for ‘groping spree’ at public water park, victims include minors
🔶️ While 12 victims have been identified, the mother of one said on social media that the number could be higher.
🔶️ This is not the first case of Indian-origin men being accused of sexual assault in the North American country. Canada, to which Indian immigration has tripled in the last decade, has seen multiple instances of complaints of sexual abuse against Indian-origin men.
🔶️ In June this year, a mother from Ontario took to social media to talk about a South Asian man who was “staring at her daughters’ bodies” in their neighbourhood playground.
🔶️ Earlier in May, another Indian-origin man was arrested for sexually assaulting underage girls. He “was known to lurk outside of the local high school and leer at minors prior to his arrest,” according to The Publica, a Canadian online news portal.
🔶️ Two other cases from 2023 also made headlines. A 55-year-old was arrested for sexually assaulting two women during job interviews last September, and a father-son duo was investigated over allegations of sexually assaulting minors on the pretext of providing them vapes, marijuana, cigarettes, and alcohol.
🔶️ In 2022, an Indian-origin police officer from Ottawa had to resign from service after accusations of sexual assault in a 2011 case. He was charged with the offence this June and is scheduled to appear in court on 18 July.
