🇷🇼🇨🇩 Here are some general maps to have an understanding of the area, which is the DR Congo-Rwanda border. Since 2022, tensions between Kinshasa and Kigali have escalated to unprecedented levels.

Goma is the capital of the North Kivu province in DR Congo and has over 650,000 residents. Meanwhile, Gisenyi is one of the largest cities in Rwanda with over 250,000 inhabitants.

Rwanda supports the ethnic Tutsi March 23 Movement (M23), which is engaged in conflict with the Congolese authorities since 2012 and has retaken Goma multiple times in the past. Today it was reported that M23 controlled about 90% of the city thanks to the support of Rwandan forces, although these claims haven’t been confirmed by all sources.
