TODAY marks 5 YEARS since WHO declared COVID-19 a global pandemic.
https://youtu.be/0PAgqw7NMZ8
Remember the uncertainty?
Thousands of frontline heroes found a way to keep children’s routine immunization running.
They didn’t wait for guidelines that didn’t exist yet.
You won’t believe what happened next.
When COVID hit, 80 MILLION children were at risk of missing life-saving shots for measles, polio, and more.
Traditional methods couldn’t adapt fast enough to this unprecedented crisis.
There were no playbooks for keeping health facilities safe and accessible.
So 6,000 health workers across Africa, Asia, and Latin America did something revolutionary.
They built a digital network to share solutions in REAL TIME.
The results?
Absolutely SHOCKING.
They generated 1,200 solutions in just 10 DAYS.
Their approach was 7x MORE EFFECTIVE than conventional approaches alone.
People who collaborated had 30% HIGHER success rates.
Bill Gates’ foundation took notice. 👀
The exciting part?
These connected networks are EXACTLY what pandemic preparedness needs.
Five years later, this peer learning model could TRANSFORM how we prepare health systems for future emergencies.
The best pandemic response? Being READY before it happens. 💪

Is climate change hurting the health of your community?
Global funders want to help health workers protect people from climate change.
If you have not yet done it:
➡️ Take the Global Climate and Health Survey.
https://tglf.typeform.com/climatehealth25#source=TGLF
The closing deadline is now 23 March 2025.
If you have already taken the survey, invite your colleagues.
Why take this survey?
One voice can be ignored.
One thousand voices become proof that brings action.
Funders and governments can use this proof to bring support.
Your community is more likely to get the help it needs.
This initiative is led by Grand Challenges Canada, Science for Africa Foundation, The Geneva Learning Foundation and the Global Grand Challenges Network.

Global health: What if we could do so much more with a lot less?
Unprecedented funding cuts force impossible choices about which health services survive.
Real men, women, boys, and girls will die from preventable causes.
Diseases will resurge.
Decades of progress risk reversal.
This special issue of The Geneva Learning Foundation’s newsletter examines how knowledge networks achieve measurable outcomes where traditional interventions stall.

Five years ago, when COVID-19 was declared a global emergency, working with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, we identified an approach with extraordinary return on investment.
A network of 6,000 frontline health workers across three continents maintained critical services when systems faltered.
Their strategy wasn’t additional supplies or consultants.
It was structured peer learning that turned knowledge into action.
The numbers are compelling.
Implementation rates seven times higher than traditional approaches.
Same or fewer resources.
Evidence from HPV vaccination to Ukraine crisis response shows a clear pattern.
Small investments in connecting practitioners yield disproportionate service delivery returns.
We also examine AI’s implications for global health governance and knowledge hierarchies.
This matters for future resource allocation.
How might this evidence change investment priorities when every dollar must deliver maximum impact?
Explore the full newsletter for data on a strategy that delivers results when resources are scarce and accountability demands soar.

World Measles Day: New peer knowledge course shares “what works” to prevent, respond, and recover from measles outbreaks #VaccinesWork #Measles
Learn more & enroll now: https://go.learning.foundation/tglf/c/20117
This peer knowledge course will start on 31 March 2025.
Health workers around the world are facing increasing measles outbreaks, putting communities at risk.
On World Measles Day, The Geneva Learning Foundation (TGLF) is pleased to announce our new course: “Measles outbreaks: prevention, response, and recovery” – bringing practical knowledge directly from those who have successfully managed outbreaks to those who need it most.
What makes this course unique?
This is not theoretical training. Through the Geneva Learning Foundation’s Teach to Reach peer learning platform, thousands of health workers have shared their direct experiences with measles outbreaks. Their collective wisdom has been carefully analyzed to reveal proven approaches that work in real communities.
The course provides insights grounded in field experience on:
1️⃣ Early detection of measles cases
2️⃣ Effective community engagement strategies
3️⃣ Managing vaccine supplies during outbreaks
4️⃣ Ensuring children receive both required doses
5️⃣ Practical outbreak preparation methods
While guidelines tell us what should happen and training shows how things might work, health workers know what actually works in real communities.
This knowledge makes the difference between:
1️⃣ Plans that look good on paper and actions that work in real life
2️⃣ Ideas that sound promising and solutions that truly help people
3️⃣ What experts think might work and what actually succeeds in communities
Participants not only study these authentic field experiences but also exchange ideas with peers facing similar challenges, creating valuable professional connections that extend beyond the course.
We invite health workers, program managers, and immunization specialists to register for this important learning opportunity. Together, we can strengthen measles prevention, detection, and response efforts worldwide.
