Over 1,000 frontline health professionals will meet on 15 September 2023 for an invitation-only global consultation to gather feedback on version 2.0 of the open-source Manifesto for global health.
The Manifesto summarizes key challenges and opportunities facing frontline health workers worldwide, as shared by over 1,000 contributors at TGLF’s Teach to Reach 8 conference on 16 June 2023.
Teach to Reach is the world’s largest networking event for immunization and other primary health care (PHC) professionals, with 16,384 having participated in the June event.
TGLF will host the invitation-only consultation with original Contributors in the run-up Teach to Reach 9 on October 13th. The goal is to refine the Manifesto with implementable recommendations to strengthen health systems globally.
“Frontline health workers shared invaluable insights that shaped the first major update of the Manifesto,” said TGLF’s Charlotte Mbuh. “Now, we are inviting those same leaders to review version 2.0 and help develop concrete next steps before we open it up to the broader global health community in October.”
The Open-Source Manifesto covers major themes like health systems, knowledge sharing, digital technology, and trust-building between health workers and the communities they serve.
It synthesizes diverse frontline perspectives from over 100 countries into a snapshot of opportunities and challenges facing global health systems today.
Mbuh adds: “This Manifesto represents the collective voice of thousands of health workers worldwide.”
The consultation takes place on Friday, September 15th at 1pm Geneva time. The finalized Manifesto will be presented at Teach to Reach 9, open to all health professionals worldwide.

This consultation, held on 15 September 2023, was held with 390 health leaders to discuss a new Manifesto for global health developed by more than 1,200 community-based health leaders from Asia, Africa, and Latin America.
No matter how brave or bold, no vision or strategy can or should be developed as a pronouncement by a single organization of how things should be.
On 15 September 2023, 390 health leaders, primarily from districts and facilities in over 80 countries of Asia, Africa, and Latin America, came together to review and discuss the draft version 2.0 of a new Manifesto for Global Health being developed ahead of Teach to Reach 9.
No international consultants, global health agencies, or donors were present. Most of the participants work for their country's Ministry of Health (MoH).
Watch this session to learn more about the Manifesto and, if you work for the health of your community and country, how you too can become a Contributor.
The new version of the Manifesto 2.0 will be presented at Teach to Reach: Connect 9, the world’s largest networking event for health professionals. Ahead of the event on 13 October 2023, Teach to Reach participants are invited to contribute.

This Manifesto is an open-source draft because, in today’s complex world, we tackle challenges that no one country or organization can possibly overcome alone.
For such a manifesto to be meaningful requires the participation, and contribution of those on the frontlines of global health, in dialogue with global, regional, and country leaders.

Teach to Reach 9: Get ready to learn about measles outbreaks, HPV vaccination, climate change, and neglected needs of women’s health
Follow this link to learn more https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cGh71Sfr5M8
On Friday, with seven days to go until Teach to Reach 9 on October 13, 2023, meet health leaders who will be at Teach to Reach and discover what we are learning ahead of the event, on questions such as:
- How to respond to measles outbreaks?
- How to successfully vaccinate against HPV (human papillomavirus)?
- How to identify and reach zero-dose children in urban and peri-urban areas (with UNICEF)
“Learning happens best when people seek answers to their specific daily challenges. Teach to Reach is proof that immunization professionals are hungry to learn, and hungry to share.” – Dr Kate O’Brien (WHO) and Ephrem T Lemango (UNICEF)
This edition of Teach to Reach isn’t just about vaccination. Find out how health professionals:
- dealing with the health effects of climate change in local communities
- take action against Female Genital Schistosomiasis (FGS), a neglected tropical disease that affects around 56 million women and girls in sub-Saharan Africa.
“Uniquely, the Geneva Learning Foundation’s platform and its Teach to Reach events provide a way to link [health professionals] together, so that they can share experiences about what works and equally important, what doesn’t work, while learning from each other.” – Ephrem T Lemango, Associate Director of Immunization, UNICEF
For health professionals, Teach to Reach offers a unique opportunity to:
1. Share experience with colleagues from all over the world
2. Get help with your toughest challenge
3. Get fresh ideas to help you succeed
Since January 2021, successive editions of Teach to Reach have connected 64,705 participants in one-to-one networking sessions and group sessions to share experience.
“While we can provide tools and guidance, we need to do more to empower immunization professionals to identify and solve their own problems, wherever they are working, and whatever those problems are.” – Dr Kate O’Brien, Director of the Department for Immunization, Vaccines, and Biologicals (IVB), World Health Organization (WHO)

In May and June 2021, over 300 healthcare professionals from sub-Saharan Africa took part in the FAST Package workshop on Female Genital Schistosomiasis (FGS) organized by Bridges to Development in partnership with The Geneva Learning Foundation.
In May 2023, over 700 practitioners joined a second Francophone cohort, organized in partnership with Bridges to Development and The End Fund.
Working together, these professionals developed 256 feasible plans for local solutions to combat BGF in their context.
This session will close a full day of networked learning at Teach to Reach 9, the world’s largest networking event for immunization and other healthcare professionals.
By attending Teach to Reach 9, you’ll join an international community of over 6,800 healthcare professionals who are standing together to address the neglected needs of women’s health.
They are part of a larger global community of more than 50,000 community-based health workers in over 80 countries.
If you have colleagues who share your interest and concerns, we encourage you to invite them to this Teach to Reach 9 session.

The Geneva Learning Foundation is delighted to announce global health leader Dr. Orin Levine will serve as a Guide on the Side for the ninth edition of Teach to Reach: Connect.
Teach to Reach is an ongoing peer learning event enabling community-based health professionals worldwide to meet, network and learn from fellow health workers across borders.
Teach to Reach convenes a diverse global community of local health workers, many working under difficult circumstances including armed conflict, disasters, and other challenges.
Friday’s edition is reaching almost 18,000 health workers, primarily those working for government in districts and facilities in Asia, Africa, and Latin America.
As a Guide on the Side, Dr. Levine will listen and share his own experience and insights.
“Joining the Teach to Reach community is like a chance to get a giant serving of education from the front lines of immunization,” said Dr. Levine.
“Stories together with evidence can really influence and change the way people take action and solve problems.”
His global health expertise will help contextualize the success stories, lessons learned, and challenges shared by participants about their daily work.
Sessions feature practitioners sharing experiences and problem-solving together, with Guides on the side like Dr. Levine coming from national and international partners.
Other Teach to Reach 9 Guides on the Side include Lora Shimp (JSI Immunization Center); Eleonore Antoinette Ba-Nguz, Ibrahim Dadari, Charles Kakaire, and Deepa Pokharel from UNICEF; Alan Brooks and Julie Jacobson from Bridges to Development; and François Gasse, a globally-recognized leader in the elimination of neonatal tetanus.
This edition will focus on critical immunization topics that matter for immunization, such as measles outbreak response and cervical cancer prevention (HPV vaccination).
In partnership with Gavi’s Zero-Dose Learning Hub and UNICEF, Teach to Reach 9 participants will share experiences of how to successfully identify and reach zero-dose children and underimmunized communities.
Other topics on the agenda include the effects of climate change on the health of local communities and neglected needs of women’s health.
