ZDLH Insights Live is a rapid, fast-paced discussion of what we learned from the zero-dose experiences of health workers in Bangladesh and Mali in the first ZDLH-X 1 inter-country peer learning event on 31 May 2023, organized by the Gavi Zero-Dose Learning Hub (ZDLH) and facilitated by The Geneva Learning Foundation (TGLF).

We will share highlights and key learning points, and invite participating zero-dose practitioners from Bangladesh, Mali, and other countries to reflect on what they learned from the inaugural May 2023 exchange.

What is ZDLH-X and why does it matter?
The ZDLH-X 1 event held on 31 May 2023 by the Gavi Zero-Dose Learning Hub (ZDLH) was a breakthrough online peer learning exchange focused on sharing experiences and insights related to identifying and reaching zero-dose children and missed communities.

The event was organized by Gavi’s Zero-Dose Learning Hub (ZDLH) initiative using The Geneva Learning Foundation (TGLF)’s innovative peer learning methodologies. It brought together nearly 2000 immunization practitioners from 84 countries, with a focus on Bangladesh and Mali.

What can we learn from ZDLH-X?
It provided a unique opportunity for frontline health workers and immunization staff at sub-national levels to directly share their challenges, successes, and innovations related to addressing zero-dose issues.

Participants could contribute before, during and after the event - sharing experiences, learning from peers, and reflecting on how to apply insights in their own context.

What is different about ZDLH-X?
The interactive format encouraged direct exchanges between peers rather than passive learning, which is more impactful based on learning science. Facilitators and experts played a supporting role.

Over 600 experiences and insights were shared related to identifying hard-to-reach populations, community engagement, service delivery strategies, dealing with conflict, vaccine hesitancy and more.

84% of participants from Bangladesh and Mali said the event changed them as a professional and 69% said it helped their practice.

Key innovations that made it a breakthrough:
- Leveraging digital platforms to connect a community of practitioners across hierarchy, geographies and languages.
- Fostering peer-to-peer exchange as co-learners focused on a shared goal.
- Building on experiences before and after the live event as part of a learning continuum.
- Primarily sub-national participants sharing field innovations rarely heard at international events.
- Facilitating local networking and empowering practitioners to lead change.

Over 1,000 frontline health professionals will meet on 15 September 2023 for an invitation-only global consultation to gather feedback on version 2.0 of the open-source Manifesto for global health.

The Manifesto summarizes key challenges and opportunities facing frontline health workers worldwide, as shared by over 1,000 contributors at TGLF’s Teach to Reach 8 conference on 16 June 2023.

Teach to Reach is the world’s largest networking event for immunization and other primary health care (PHC) professionals, with 16,384 having participated in the June event.

TGLF will host the invitation-only consultation with original Contributors in the run-up Teach to Reach 9 on October 13th. The goal is to refine the Manifesto with implementable recommendations to strengthen health systems globally.

“Frontline health workers shared invaluable insights that shaped the first major update of the Manifesto,” said TGLF’s Charlotte Mbuh. “Now, we are inviting those same leaders to review version 2.0 and help develop concrete next steps before we open it up to the broader global health community in October.”

The Open-Source Manifesto covers major themes like health systems, knowledge sharing, digital technology, and trust-building between health workers and the communities they serve.

It synthesizes diverse frontline perspectives from over 100 countries into a snapshot of opportunities and challenges facing global health systems today.

Mbuh adds: “This Manifesto represents the collective voice of thousands of health workers worldwide.”

The consultation takes place on Friday, September 15th at 1pm Geneva time. The finalized Manifesto will be presented at Teach to Reach 9, open to all health professionals worldwide.

Join the consultation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CejtoYOCZBY

This consultation, held on 15 September 2023, was held with 390 health leaders to discuss a new Manifesto for global health developed by more than 1,200 community-based health leaders from Asia, Africa, and Latin America.

No matter how brave or bold, no vision or strategy can or should be developed as a pronouncement by a single organization of how things should be.

On 15 September 2023, 390 health leaders, primarily from districts and facilities in over 80 countries of Asia, Africa, and Latin America, came together to review and discuss the draft version 2.0 of a new Manifesto for Global Health being developed ahead of Teach to Reach 9.

No international consultants, global health agencies, or donors were present. Most of the participants work for their country's Ministry of Health (MoH).

Watch this session to learn more about the Manifesto and, if you work for the health of your community and country, how you too can become a Contributor.

The new version of the Manifesto 2.0 will be presented at Teach to Reach: Connect 9, the world’s largest networking event for health professionals. Ahead of the event on 13 October 2023, Teach to Reach participants are invited to contribute.

This Manifesto is an open-source draft because, in today’s complex world, we tackle challenges that no one country or organization can possibly overcome alone.

For such a manifesto to be meaningful requires the participation, and contribution of those on the frontlines of global health, in dialogue with global, regional, and country leaders.
