Dear Scholars of the Geneva Learning Foundation,

As Christians celebrate the joyous occasion of Easter and the resurrection of Jesus Christ, we extend our warmest wishes to all our learners and alumni who observe this special time. May the hope and renewal that comes with this season inspire you to greater heights of faith and love.

We appreciate and celebrate the diverse beliefs and cultures that enrich our global community, and we stand united in our pursuit of knowledge and understanding. As we gather with our families and loved ones, let us reflect on the beauty of life and the power of faith. May this Easter bring you peace, joy, and the assurance of God’s love.

Happy Easter!

In the spirit of hope and rebirth,
As the sun ascends, casting colors on Earth,
We celebrate life’s joy, hearts full of mirth,
The glorious Easter Day, a dream’s new birth.

Scholars, side by side,
Embrace the diverse hues of our sphere,
With love and understanding, as our guide,
In unity, our hearts and minds hold dear.

As blossoms bloom and skies sing in delight,
Families gather in joy, the world anew,
To cherish life’s blessings, shining so bright,
In gratitude for love, and friendships true.

In this season of growth, let us reflect,
On kindness, forgiveness, love’s warm embrace,
With open hearts, our lives interconnect,
In the pursuit of wisdom, together we chase.

We wish you peace and love, as you celebrate,
The beauty of Easter, a harmonious voice,
May you find solace in life’s vibrant state,
As hope’s light guides you, a beacon of choice.

From the Geneva Learning Foundation,
Our warmest wishes for an inspiring season,
May your days be filled with love that transcends,
And may your Easter be joyful, for every reason.

The Geneva Learning Foundation is helping Gavi’s new Zero-Dose Learning Hub (ZDLH) use innovative learning approaches to reach children who remain unprotected from vaccine-preventable diseases

Geneva, 19 April 2023
 – The Geneva Learning Foundation (TGLF) is launching the first zero-dose Learning Innovation Unit (LIU). The Unit is part the Zero-Dose Learning Hub (ZDLH), a new global mechanism being launched by Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance (Gavi) and led by JSI Research and Training Institute, Inc. (JSI). The goal is to improve how data and evidence are leveraged to successfully identify and reach the millions of children who have not yet received a single routine vaccine shot – “zero-dose” children – and the missed communities in which they live.

The Geneva Learning Foundation (TGLF), a Swiss non-profit with the mission to research and develop new ways to learn and lead, will contribute to accelerate progress towards Gavi’s goal of halving the number of zero-dose children worldwide by 2030. The Hub’s focus on learning innovation will bring the latest evidence-informed innovations in adult learning to help advance how immunization practitioners at all levels of a health system can discover, adapt, and apply practical zero-dose solutions in their daily work.

Leveraging TGLF’s existing global platform and network of 50,000 frontline immunization workers from Country Learning Hub and other countries, the LIU will ensure learning approaches put subnational staff—who can best reach zero-dose communities—at the center.

“As Gavi’s Managing Director, Thabani Maphosa, rightly pointed out, zero-dose children face significant and complex systemic barriers”, said TGLF president Reda Sadki. “This is a learning problem that requires immunization staff to explore new ways of thinking and doing to break down such barriers. Doing what has been done in the past is unlikely to produce different results.”

“Immunization stakeholders aim to work alongside communities to improve routine immunization, but have rarely been able to rapidly harness local expertise at scale”, said TGLF senior immunization advisor Jenny Sequeira. “By focusing on sub-national staff, the Learning Innovation Unit ensures that the individuals who best understand the unique challenges and solutions within their communities are at the center of our efforts.”

Local insights and experiences are crucial in informing global practice and strengthening Gavi’s IRMMA framework (Identify - Reach - Measure - Monitor - Advocate). “This approach”, she says, “can help immunization practitioners at all levels better understand what truly works at the local level, and effectively respond to the diverse needs of zero-dose communities.”

The LIU will work with ZDLH regional partner the Indian Institute of Health Management Research (IIHMR) and the Country Learning Hubs with multiple opportunities for cross-country and global online learning exchanges, to develop a locally-appropriate compendium of tools and tactics and help their sub-national immunization practitioners move from evidence to action in addressing zero-dose challenges.

What happens when 14,134 frontline immunization professionals from districts and facilities in 89 countries connect to share their experience – at a time when global agencies are affirming their commitment to local capacity strengthening?

What difference can could such networked learning make as the same agencies call for “the big catchup”, to ensure every child is protected from vaccine-preventable diseases?

The Geneva Learning Foundation’s Insights Unit has distilled thousands of ideas and insights from the latest “Teach to Reach” networking event into practical learning of ‘what works’ – and how – to reach children, families, and communities in 2023.

Dr Kate O’Brien, Director of the Department for Immunization, Vaccines, and Biologicals (IVB), World Health Organization (WHO) and Ephrem T. Lemango, Associate Director of Immunization at UNICEF, explain in the preface to these insights: “It is crucial to support and empower health professionals at the local level. By listening to their stories and insights, we can better understand and address the challenges they face, ultimately fostering a stronger and more resilient global immunization system.”

Teach to Reach 8: And now what?

16,835 health professionals from the frontlines of immunization and primary health care (PHC) are using the power of peer learning to tackle their local challenges through the Teach to Reach global learning-to-action network.

The live event was held on Friday 16 June 2023, focused on one-to-one networking between participants.

Teach to Reach 8 was opened by the Women Who Deliver Vaccines collective, who shared their experience of HPV vaccine introduction to help prevent 340,000 deaths from cervical cancer.

Listen to the voices of Women Who Deliver Vaccines explain why HPV vaccine matters https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XaGTCMTDJ8w

Friday’s live event was powerful. However, this live learning moment was just one step of Teach to Reach.

Ahead of the event, 1,175 participants had already shared experiences on range of community-selected questions.

All Teach to Reach 8 participants receive the complete compendium of the 1,251 experiences shared before the event.

Participants are now using the next two weeks to share their learning and insights.

These insights will also be given back to the community in the upcoming Teach to Reach 8 Listening and Learning insights report.

At any time, participants can share further insights, ideas, and practices with each other, through The Double Loop, our Insights newsletter.

Learn more about The Double Loop https://www.learning.foundation/Loop

Follow this link to see the Teach to Reach 7 insights https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.7766585

Participants will also join Insights Live, live-streamed discussions of what we are learning together – and how we are using this to make a difference.

Here are the questions and the number of contributions each one received before Teach to Reach 8:
