This is not a public event or a webinar, but a unique opportunity for women who work in immunization to defy boundaries by connecting, sharing experience, and getting to know each other.

On 8 March 2023, we will also be livestreaming several public events led by the Women Who Deliver Vaccines Collective here.

Why meet with fellow women who work in immunization?

As women, we continue to work tirelessly to maintain immunization services within the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, scale up COVID-19 vaccination, and pursue efforts to reach the 20 million children who remain at risk from vaccine-preventable diseases.

We believe it is vital to connect with other women, to listen and learn from each other.

As stated by a Founder of Women Who Deliver Vaccines: “Together we will learn from and support each other. It is through sharing that we can make things better at home.”

The Geneva Learning Foundation is helping Gavi’s new Zero-Dose Learning Hub (ZDLH) use innovative learning approaches to reach children who remain unprotected from vaccine-preventable diseases

Geneva, 19 April 2023
 – The Geneva Learning Foundation (TGLF) is launching the first zero-dose Learning Innovation Unit (LIU). The Unit is part the Zero-Dose Learning Hub (ZDLH), a new global mechanism being launched by Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance (Gavi) and led by JSI Research and Training Institute, Inc. (JSI). The goal is to improve how data and evidence are leveraged to successfully identify and reach the millions of children who have not yet received a single routine vaccine shot – “zero-dose” children – and the missed communities in which they live.

The Geneva Learning Foundation (TGLF), a Swiss non-profit with the mission to research and develop new ways to learn and lead, will contribute to accelerate progress towards Gavi’s goal of halving the number of zero-dose children worldwide by 2030. The Hub’s focus on learning innovation will bring the latest evidence-informed innovations in adult learning to help advance how immunization practitioners at all levels of a health system can discover, adapt, and apply practical zero-dose solutions in their daily work.

Leveraging TGLF’s existing global platform and network of 50,000 frontline immunization workers from Country Learning Hub and other countries, the LIU will ensure learning approaches put subnational staff—who can best reach zero-dose communities—at the center.

“As Gavi’s Managing Director, Thabani Maphosa, rightly pointed out, zero-dose children face significant and complex systemic barriers”, said TGLF president Reda Sadki. “This is a learning problem that requires immunization staff to explore new ways of thinking and doing to break down such barriers. Doing what has been done in the past is unlikely to produce different results.”

“Immunization stakeholders aim to work alongside communities to improve routine immunization, but have rarely been able to rapidly harness local expertise at scale”, said TGLF senior immunization advisor Jenny Sequeira. “By focusing on sub-national staff, the Learning Innovation Unit ensures that the individuals who best understand the unique challenges and solutions within their communities are at the center of our efforts.”

Local insights and experiences are crucial in informing global practice and strengthening Gavi’s IRMMA framework (Identify - Reach - Measure - Monitor - Advocate). “This approach”, she says, “can help immunization practitioners at all levels better understand what truly works at the local level, and effectively respond to the diverse needs of zero-dose communities.”

The LIU will work with ZDLH regional partner the Indian Institute of Health Management Research (IIHMR) and the Country Learning Hubs with multiple opportunities for cross-country and global online learning exchanges, to develop a locally-appropriate compendium of tools and tactics and help their sub-national immunization practitioners move from evidence to action in addressing zero-dose challenges.
