1. Take time to know yourself. "Know thyself" said Aristotle. When you know who you are, you can be wise about your goals, your dreams, your standards, your convictions. Knowing who you are allows you to live your life with purpose and meaning.

2. A narrow focus brings big results. The number one reason people give up so fast is because they tend to look at how far they still have to go instead of how far they have come. But it's a series of small wins that can give us the most significant success.

3. Show up fully. Don't dwell on the past, and don't daydream about the future, but concentrate on showing up fully in the present moment.

4. Don't make assumptions. If you don't know the situation fully, you can't offer an informed opinion.

5. Be patient and persistent. Life is not so much what you accomplish as what you overcome. 

6. In order to get, you have to give. If you support, guide, and lead others, if you make contributions to their lives, you will reap the best rewards.

7. Luck comes from hard work. Luck happens when hard work and timing and talent intersect.

8. Be your best at all times. You never know what the future will bring, so always make the best use of the present.

فليس بمَلْكِنا كيف اجتمعنا
وليس بمَلْكِنا كيف افترقنا

ابن الكتب !

يقول محمد المقدم في كتابه علو الهمّة:
طلب رجل من زوجته الحامل ذات يوم أن تأتيه بكتاب من المكتبة، فأجاءها المخاض فيها، فولدتْ بين الكُتب، فلقّب الناس ابنها بِـ "ابن الكتب". وابن الكتب هذا لم يكن غير جلال الدين السيوطي، أحد أشهر العلماء المسلمين على مرّ العصور، ترك في الدنيا قبل مغادرتها زهاء ستمئة كتاب !

من الواضح أنّ السيوطي نشأ في بيت يعجّ بالكتب، أبوه يقرأ وأمه تعرف أن تميز الكتاب من غيره على أقل تقدير، ولا شك أن هذا البيت له الفضل بعد فضل الله فيما صار عليه لاحقًا !

طبعًا نشوء الأطفال في بيوت تقرأ وتتثقف لا يعطيهم حتمية أن يكونوا قارئين ومثقفين، فقد يخرج الجهلة من بيوت المتعلمين، وقد يخرج العلماء من بيوت الأميين، وابن شيخ الدعاة نوح عليه السلام غرق بالطوفان، وامرأة لوطٍ عليه السلام كانت على الكفر، وفي المقابل خرج خليل الله إبراهيم عليه السلام من صلب المشرك آزر، على أحد القولين أنه لم يكن عمه، وكانت آسيا بنت مزاحم إحدى أشهر المؤمنات في التاريخ زوجة الرجل الذي كان يصيح ملء حنجرته قائلًا: "أنا ربكم الأعلى" إن لله في خلقه شؤونًا، "يُخرج الحي من الميت ويُخرج الميت من الحي" !

ولكن هذه الأمثلة التي سقتها إليكم هي أمثلة شذّت عن القاعدة، وأما القاعدة العامة فتقول: "الطيبون للطيبات"، وعلها قِسْ، فإن الأولاد نتاج البيئة التي يعيشون فيها، والبيوت التي يكبرون في كنفها، وقلما يحبب الأبوان أولادهما بالقراءة والثقافة، ولا يكون أولادهما بعد ذلك قارئين ومثقفين، وحين نذكر ابن نوح الذي غرق، فإن العدالة أن نذكر أن ثلاثة آخرين من أبنائه قد ركبوا السفينة!

الأولاد – ذكرانًا وإناثًا طبعًا – كالأرض الزراعية، لا تطرحُ من المحصول إلا ما زُرع فيها، فالذي يزرع الشعير لا يحصد القمح ! والقراءة والثقافة فعل زراعة ! وعملية تحبيب وتعويد ما تلبث أن تصير في الأولاد ملَكة وطبعًا !

إن أرقى صناعة هي صناعة الإنسان، وأجمل استثمار هو استثمار العقول، وهذه مهمة الوالدين بعد توفيق الله ... الكتب أثاث فاخر، وشخصيًا لا يجذبني شيء في البيوت كما تجذبني مكتبة، على أن الكتب ليست أثاثًا للزينة، ولا غرضًا للتباهي، فقيمة الكتب الحقيقية ليست بوجودها على رفوف المكتبة في البيت، وإنما بوجودها في عقول أهل البيت، لهذا إن اقتناء الكتب هي نصف مهمة الوالدين، ولكنها النصف اليسير والسهل، أما النصف العسير والصعب فهو تعويد الأولاد على القراءة، ومناقشتهم بالذي قرأوه، وإرشادهم في اختيار الكتب بما يُناسب أعمارهم ومستواهم العلمي وقدرتهم على الاستيعاب، إن أولادنا هم أولادنا هذا شأن القدر، أما جعلهم أبناء الكتب فهذا شأننا نحن !
