Dentists play a significant role in the opioid crisis, as they are among the primary prescribers of opioids for acute dental pain, particularly following procedures like wisdom tooth extraction.
Studies indicate that teenagers and young adults who receive initial opioid prescriptions from dentists are at a substantially increased risk for continued opioid use and abuse, with nearly 7% showing persistent use and almost 6% diagnosed with opioid abuse within a year of their initial prescription.
This risk is especially pronounced in younger patients (ages 16–18) and females.

GOOD NEWS FOR NEW ZEALAND ORGANIC SECTOR
The New Zealand Government has appointed Mike Butterick MP as Associate Minister of Agriculture - Organics, a dedicated ministerial role for the organic sector and, as far as Organics Aotearoa New Zealand (OANZ) is aware, a world first. No other country currently has a minister with a dedicated organic portfolio at the national government level.
OANZ Chair, Noel Josephson, described the appointment as "The most significant government commitment to the organic sector since the passing of the Organic Products and Production Act in 2023," and one he believes will "transcend governments and become a lasting feature of how New Zealand supports sustainable food and farming."
New Zealand's organic sector generates NZD1.2 billion annually, with NZD606.7 million in export earnings in 2024, growing at approximately twice the rate of wider Food and Fibre export revenue.

A recent experience shows how you can change your dentistry! All courses on my platform can help, but the most recent one about "How to choose a good dentist" (click for link) helped Jackie very well!
Recently our supporting member Jackie studied this material and made an appointment with her dentist. But first she emailed the free pdf of the book 'free your smile' to the clinic (included in the free course).
This is her story on how this went:
"Hi Fre. I had my dentist appointment today. I was highly recommended to have a root canal. When I said I wanted a temporary glasionomer filling and insisted. He did do it but I had to sign a waiver saying that I went against the dentists advice. He said there was a chance of the tooth getting infected.
I said what were the options if that happened. He said I could have a root canal or pull it out. If pulled out he said the options would be an implant or clicker.
After the treatment he didn’t charge me and said it was because he didn’t feel right as he didn't feel the choice of treatment was the right choice and felt responsible. I said I was happy to pay and he insisted I didn’t. So I said ‘thank you’!
By the way I sent the dentist an email before my appointment with the pdf of your book’free your smile” my recent X-rays and request to have the temporary glasionomer instead of a root canal.
The office admin had not passed it on to him. He opened the email while I was there and started reading your book while he was waiting for the numbing gel to take effect. He said he would get back to me after reading it. So that will be interesting...!"
Comment:
This experience made me think. Dentists are often afraid to go outside their protocolised narrative. Apart from starting a discussion by sending the free book pdf before your appointment, I decided to go one step further. I created an mutual agreement on minimal invasive dentistry that includes a waiver but also a referral to remedial treatment with 'goodwill'. Three bills. One existential threat.
Right now, three pieces of legislation are moving through Parliament simultaneously, together representing a serious threat to the organic and GE-free sectors and our wider environment and health.
The Gene Technology Bill proposes to relax New Zealand's precautionary approach to genetic modification, allowing the environmental release of GMOs. Once released, contamination is irreversible, and there is no calling it back. Stalled after the first reading.
The HSNO Amendment Bill quietly gives the EPA the power to bypass normal approval processes for new organisms with limited public oversight and appears to lay the groundwork for a more permissive GE regime. Submissions close 11.59pm, Monday 15 June.
The ACVM Amendment Bill speeds up access to agricultural products approved overseas, but without clearly defining which regulators are "trusted," potentially opening a backdoor for GE inputs to enter our food system under the guise of ‘biologicals’. Submissions close 11.59pm, Monday 15 June.
These bills don’t work in isolation; together, they compound one another, creating regulatory gaps that put everything our sector has built over decades at risk. Few have got their heads around the impact of these bills, but we have.

TOXIC TIME-BOMBS IN YOUR TEETH?
50% of this "silver" filling is mercury. The mercury vapor leaches out during the full lifetime of the filling with every chewing movement and every hot drink. This is not contested. Long term effects on health are known from mercury poisoning.
Even when it was introduced in the United states in the 1830's it sparked a lot of controversy. Many dentists did not want to use it. But then gold was the only alternative for fillings, so it was a seen as at least a cheap quick fix. Only in the 1980's white composite filling material became available giving a far less toxic option to replace amalgam.
My opinion: white fillings can have good quality, especially when made with "BIO-MIMETIC" techniques. NEVER EVER have a new filling made with amalgam. Replace old amalgam fillings when they are due or when you have a chronic health issue.
CAREFUL: watch my video's about more detail on toxicity, pregnancy issues and how toxicity can affect your overall health. There are ways to safely remove fillings and easy methods to detox for a few weeks after removal of the fillings. You should know this and discuss this with your dentist.

A.I. in Dentistry: Risk of losing the art of the craft
In my book "free your smile" I wrote a chapter called "Back to basics". In this chapter I plea for a return to the "art" of the 'artisan' dentist. The industry makes you believe that everything done through a.i. and 3d- machines is better. This is simply not true. It is more expensive!
A recent study from Pakistan warns that clinical oversight remains crucial when integrating AI-driven diagnostics and treatment planning into practice. The researchers caution that there is very little validation for the incorporation of all these new techniques.
My daily experience with CT volumetric 3D bone scanning was that the AI was unreliable for the prediction of ideal oral implant locations. Which made me aware of the unreliability of DEXA scanning for detecting osteoporosis. So what's new? Better find a dentist who is more interested in you then in AI...
