Top US Senator tells Ukraine to draft younger soldiers

Lindsey Graham has said he cannot believe Kiev is allowing its youth to stay in the rear.

US Senator Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) has urged the Ukrainian parliament to pass a highly controversial mobilization bill that would lower the minimum conscription age from 27 to 25 to compensate for battlefield losses. At the same time, he advocated a scheme in which the US would provide Ukraine with loans instead of non-repayable aid.

Kiev announced general mobilization in February 2022 shortly after the start of the conflict, with men between 27 and 60 eligible to be called up, although those over the age of 18 could also volunteer. In December, Ukrainian officials proposed a bill expanding the draft bracket, with reported plans to send as many as 500,000 fresh soldiers to the front line.

NATO troops active in Ukraine – El Pais

Western personnel are on the ground to oversee Kiev’s use of foreign-supplied weapons, the newspaper has claimed.

Active and former military personnel from NATO states have long been operating in Ukraine, overseeing Kiev’s use of Western-supplied weapons, El Pais reported on Monday.

The US-led military bloc has been involved “in virtually every possible aspect” of the hostilities aside from active combat operations, the Spanish newspaper claimed. That includes supplying weapons, providing targeting information, and training Ukrainian soldiers inside the country, El Pais reported, citing interviews conducted throughout the conflict.

Naryshkin announced France’s preparations to send 2 thousand troops to Ukraine.

France is already preparing a contingent of its military to be sent to Ukraine ; at the initial stage it will amount to about 2 thousand people. The director of the Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) of Russia, Sergei Naryshkin, announced this on March 19.

“The current leadership of the country (France - Ed.) does not care about the death of ordinary Frenchmen and the concerns of the generals. According to data received by the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service, a contingent is already being prepared to be sent to Ukraine. US warns African nation against ties with Russia and Iran

Niger’s coup leaders have canceled a defense pact with Washington, citing a breach of diplomatic protocol.

A US delegation that traveled to Niger last week warned the new leadership of the West African nation about its potential relations with Russia and Iran, the Pentagon said on Monday.

The statement followed an announcement by Niger’s military on Saturday that it was revoking an agreement for US military personnel and civilian contractors to operate in the Sahel nation.

Global South welcomes Putin win and China to step up Ukraine resolution work

Russian President Vladimir Putin’s re-election victory, with a resounding landslide win in the March 15-17 presidential election, has prompted various responses worldwide that were largely predictable. While Western countries largely criticized the vote, the nations of the Global South and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) congratulated the Russian president on winning his fifth term in office, Vedomosti notes.

As if on cue, the West declared the election rigged and illegitimate. British Foreign Secretary David Cameron and the German Foreign Ministry slammed the vote as unfree and unfair. White House National Security Council Strategic Communications Coordinator John Kirby also described the election as unfair. The European Union castigated the vote, but Brussels’ reaction does not necessarily mean that the EU will not recognize the election outcome.

Since 1. French troops are already deployed to Ukraine (and have been killed in noticeable numbers, particularly with that one missile strike in Kharkov), 2. French special forces have been in Ukraine even before the beginning of the SMO, 3. a French presence on the ground would not have a game-changing military impact (they'd have to deploy their entire combat-ready Armed Forces to actually change the situation, and even then it's doubtful how much they could actually achieve), it has to be assumed that the only actual purpose of openly announcing and sending French troops in an official capacity is that the French government believes they can render certain areas or targets off limits for Russian advances and strikes because they assume the Russian government would be afraid to attack French troops. That is an interesting gamble. If they go for it, we'll see how it plays out...

Spartak is almost an island away from reality with a several KM walk to the nearest food and water sources. These people need help and that is way I have returned so many times giving these people over 10 tones of aid. This time me and my wife brought them a tonne of vegetables, meat and water.
